Primary Duty:
The Quality Control Supervisor is responsible for the quality of the product manufactured on his or her assigned shift. This person is also responsible for developing and implementing testing procedures for the other shifts. In addition to the aforementioned responsibilities, the Quality Control Supervisor is responsible for identifying quality issues in the plant and developing training processes to correct the identified deficiencies. May also be assigned supervisory responsibilities over a small (2-3 person) department as a developmental opportunity.
Essential Functions:
- Responsible for product quality of finished goods by developing, implementing, scheduling, and performing quality control tests.
- Ensure testing procedures adhere to established standards in terms of sample size and sample selections criteria.
- Understand a scientific approach to problem solving.
- May provide direction and instruction to other employees in demonstrating how to perform tasks and procedures or resolve problems.
- Maintain and gain relevant knowledge keeping abreast of industry technologies, production policies, procedures and techniques that affect product quality variables.
- Capable of communicating with others at all levels in the organization and open and responsive to change.
- May interface with customers regarding product quality issues.
- Work with others in the organization (sales, management, etc.) on product development.
- Follow industry standards and specifications for grade, adhesive, thickness, and type.
- Develop, implement, and manage programs to attain and maintain 3rd party certification compliance.
- May focus on maintaining laboratory equipment, instrument calibration, test data management, and/or document control.
- Demonstrate strong commitment to safety, quality, environmental awareness, and continuous process improvement.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Education/Experience/Physical Functions:
College degree, or equivalent work experience in related job function. Prefer degree in wood science, wood technology or engineering. Must have more than five (5) years of experience in related job function; preferably in wood products. Successful candidate will have a strong background in statistical analysis, able to direct personnel and coordinate the functions of several work centers, possess excellent written and communication skills and good interpersonal skills to work with people of various technical expertise.
Decision-Making/Supervisory
Decisions guided by policies, procedures with oversight from manager. May supervise the daily activities of 2 or more employees. May guide other supervisors and/or leads.
