Position Overview

The Quality Control Specialist is the on-the-ground guardian of craftsmanship and brand integrity for our high-end hard goods and soft goods made in Asia. This role ensures that every product meets exacting global standards of fit, finish, durability, and aesthetic excellence.

Operating as the final gatekeeper between factory and customer, the QC Specialist will partner with design, engineering, and operations teams to ensure luxury quality consistency, zero-defect delivery, and brand-aligned presentation across every batch and supplier.

Note: Candidates must hold a valid passport and be available for international travel — including to Vietnam, Mexico, and other manufacturing locations — to conduct on-site quality inspections and vendor assessments as needed.

Key Responsibilities

1. Precision Inspection & Validation

  • Execute Pre-Production (PPI), In-Line (DPI), and Final Random Inspections (FRI) aligned with AQL standards and internal luxury quality benchmarks.
  • For hard goods (luggage, sporting goods, fitness equipment):
    • Inspect for surface uniformity, tolerance precision, and aesthetic perfection — no visible tool marks, uneven coatings, or mechanical noise.=
    • Verify wheel balance, handle torque strength, hinge and frame alignment, telescopic system smoothness, and coating durability (scratch and UV resistance).
    • Conduct impact, load, and life-cycle tests simulating real-world use to confirm product endurance and feel.
  • For soft goods (apparel, straps, textiles, travel accessories):
    • Assess fabric hand-feel, weight consistency (GSM), and drape behavior versus approved “gold seal” samples.
    • Check stitch density (SPI), seam alignment, pattern symmetry, color fidelity, print clarity, and hardware finish.
    • Perform colorfastness, stretch recovery, wash shrinkage, and pilling tests in line with brand protocols.
  • Ensure each product not only meets spec — but feels premium in touch, appearance, and function.
  • Tag and quarantine non-conforming products for rework or destruction per brand protocols.
2. Supplier Excellence & Factory Partnership
  • Act as the brand’s eyes and voice within manufacturing facilities, maintaining aesthetic, functional, and ethical alignment.
  • Conduct factory process audits focusing on craftsmanship consistency, environmental controls (dust, humidity, handling), and adherence to ISO9001 / BSCI / Sedex / brand code of conduct.
  • Partner with suppliers to develop luxury-specific inspection SOPs, training local QC teams on the nuances of high-end finishing, surface inspection under controlled lighting, and final presentation standards.
  • Evaluate supplier tooling, calibration, and maintenance practices to minimize process variation.
  • Oversee execution of CAPA (Corrective and Preventive Actions) and verify permanent closure.
3. Brand Quality Systems & Continuous Improvement
  • Maintain and refine Luxury Quality Checklists across all product lines — covering fit, finish, material uniformity, tactile impression, and packaging presentation.
  • Support New Product Introduction (NPI) by validating production readiness, ensuring first runs match reference standards, and maintaining golden samples.
  • Collect and analyze QC data to generate trend reports, tracking:
    • Defect categories by supplier
    • First-pass yield rates
    • Rework incidence
    • Visual quality consistency score
  • Collaborate with Product Development and Engineering to feed back design-for-quality insights (e.g., material tolerance adjustments, joinery design improvements).
  • Participate in Lean / Kaizen / Six Sigma activities to reduce variation and elevate finish consistency across lines.
4. Documentation, Reporting & Presentation
  • Maintain a digital archive of inspection reports, photo documentation, and golden sample approvals for every batch.
  • Issue detailed inspection reports within 24 hours — including annotated defect photos, process root causes, and proposed countermeasures.
  • Verify that all packaging, labeling, hang tags, dust bags, and inserts align with premium retail presentation standards.
  • Facilitate luxury shipment release approvals only after all critical checkpoints pass.
  • Ensure traceability for every product — from raw material to finished item — with batch-level quality sign-off.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Quality Engineering, Mechanical or Industrial Engineering, Textile Science, or equivalent experience.
  • 5–8 years in luxury or high-end manufacturing QC for hard goods and soft goods (e.g., luggage, fitness equipment, apparel, sporting goods).
  • Advanced knowledge of AQL / ANSI Z1.4 inspection methodology and luxury defect classification (cosmetic vs functional).
  • Proficiency with QC reporting tools, ERP systems, and digital inspection apps (e.g., QCCheck, QIMAone, Airtable, or internal systems).
  • Understanding of material science, surface finishing, plating and coating QC, textile testing, and dimensional tolerancing.
  • English and Mandarin fluency (written and spoken) required; Cantonese a plus.
  • Able to travel up to 70% across Eastern China, Mexico, Asia, and the U.S.  (factories, labs, suppliers, warehouses).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience with premium or luxury brands (fashion, luggage, automotive, or lifestyle).
  • Familiarity with mechanical testing (drop, torsion, compression, fatigue) and textile standards (ASTM D4966, ISO 105, AATCC).
  • Training in Six Sigma Green Belt or Lean manufacturing preferred.
  • Knowledge of sustainability and eco-compliance testing (REACH, Prop 65, OEKO-TEX).
  • Skilled in visual defect calibration under standardized lighting and surface reflection conditions.
