The Quality Control Manager is responsible for planning, directing, coordinating, and leading the company's Quality Management System (QMS) to ensure the continuous production of pipe, fittings, and fabricated products that consistently meet customer, regulatory, and company quality standards. This role oversees quality assurance, quality control, inspection, testing, supplier quality, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives while promoting operational excellence, product reliability, and customer satisfaction.


The Quality Control Manager develops, implements, and maintains quality policies, procedures, and performance metrics. The position analyzes statistical data, product specifications, and quality trends to establish and improve quality standards while ensuring compliance with ISO 9001 and applicable industry requirements


Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain the Quality Management System (QMS) in accordance with ISO 9001 and company requirements.
  • Establish quality objectives and coordinate quality initiatives with Production, Engineering, Purchasing, Sales, and Operations to maximize product quality while minimizing waste and production costs.
  • Direct and manage quality inspectors, technicians, and other quality personnel to ensure effective inspection and testing of incoming materials, in-process production, and finished products.
  • Develop and implement inspection plans, quality procedures, work instructions, and testing protocols.
  • Monitor quality performance through statistical analysis, key performance indicators (KPIs), and quality reporting.
  • Analyze quality trends and recommend process improvements to improve product reliability and manufacturing efficiency.
  • Investigate nonconforming products, identify root causes, and implement effective corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
  • Lead internal audits, supplier audits, and customer quality audits.
  • Manage customer complaints related to product quality and coordinate corrective actions to ensure timely resolution.
  • Review engineering drawings, customer specifications, purchase orders, contracts, and quality requirements to verify compliance.
  • Collaborate with Engineering to establish inspection criteria, acceptance standards, and quality control requirements for new and existing products.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable customer specifications, ASTM standards, industry codes, and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop supplier quality expectations and work closely with internal and external suppliers to improve product quality and performance.
  • Plan, organize, and conduct quality-related training programs for employees.
  • Prepare quality reports, management review data, inspection records, and quality performance metrics.
  • Develop departmental budgets and monitor expenditures.
  • Recruit, hire, train, coach, evaluate, and develop quality department personnel.
  • Conduct employee performance evaluations and recommend promotions, transfers, disciplinary actions, and recognition as appropriate.
  • Interpret and enforce company policies, quality standards, and safety procedures.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives using Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other quality improvement methodologies.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA safety requirements and environmental regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint).

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, piping isometrics, P&IDs, GD&T, specifications, and customer requirements.
  • Ability to review drawings and specifications to establish appropriate quality controls and inspection requirements.
  • Working knowledge of plastic pipe manufacturing processes including extrusion, molding, fabrication, welding, and assembly.
  • Hands-on experience inspecting pipe, fittings, fabricated products, and assemblies.
  • Knowledge of hydrostatic and pneumatic pressure testing and applicable non-destructive testing (NDT) methods.
  • Understanding of dimensional inspection techniques and selection of appropriate measuring equipment based on tolerance requirements.
  • Knowledge of statistical process control (SPC), capability studies, sampling plans, and statistical evaluation methods.
  • Familiarity with pipe and fitting measurement methods.
  • Proficiency using precision measuring equipment including:
    • Calipers
    • Micrometers
    • Height gauges
    • Indicators
    • Measuring tapes
    • Bore gauges
  • Other inspection instruments
  • Experience programming and operating Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM).
  • Demonstrated success working collaboratively with suppliers and customers to resolve quality issues.
  • Ability to review purchase orders, contracts, specifications, and customer documentation to ensure compliance.
  • Thorough understanding of ISO 9001 Quality Management System requirements.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and environmental compliance requirements.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality Management, Industrial Technology, Business, or a related technical field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Certified Quality Manager (CQM), Certified Manager of Quality/Organizational Excellence (CMQ/OE), or equivalent quality certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 5–10 years of progressive quality management experience in manufacturing.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in pipe, fittings, plastic fabrication, inspection, and testing.
  • Experience managing quality inspectors and quality systems.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification preferred.
  • Experience with ISO 9001 certification and audit management.

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:

  • Work is performed in both office and manufacturing environments.
  • Frequent exposure to production areas with elevated temperatures.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds safely.
  • Ability to maintain visual focus during repetitive inspection activities.
  • Exposure to manufacturing equipment and moving machinery; safety-toed footwear required.
  • Exposure to plastic chips, dust, and debris; eye protection required.
  • Ability to maintain a standard 40-hour workweek with overtime as necessary.
  • Ability to perform repetitive physical activities including walking, standing, bending, twisting, reaching, stooping, pushing, pulling, and climbing as required.
  • Exposure to industrial noise requiring hearing protection where applicable.
  • Exposure to electrical and mechanical equipment in a manufacturing environment.
  • Must comply with all company safety policies, PPE requirements, and applicable OSHA regulations.

Salary Range: $100,000 - $180,250 Per Year + Bonus
