Job Description:

Lead quality efforts and drive improvement to establish and maintain an effective Quality Management System in a High Mix/Low Volume environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Drive daily adherence to the Quality Management System (QMS) by working with process owners across functions.
  • Use Lean Six Sigma / Lean methodology to support initiatives, improve processes and reduce defects.
  • Manage supplier quality and ensure a process is in place to provide feedback to suppliers when defects are found and ensure corrective actions are received.
  • Develop strategies to drive variability and instability out of manufacturing/fabrication processes.
  • Establish and implement various training programs to drive cultural change and to assure high levels of expertise, support, and compliance in areas related to quality system functions.
  • Coach and develop team members in the effective use of quality tools such as root cause counter measure (RCCM), measurement systems analysis (MSA), statistical process control (SPC), and QMS.
  • Lead the development of quality control processes and standard work instructions.
  • Ensure that change management procedures are followed and communicated to all affected associates.
  • Review and standardize control plans, closed loop corrective action systems and quality management systems in facilities.
  • Monitor performance of the Quality Management System through data analysis and adherence to standards.
  • Work with the Continuous Improvement Team in identifying activities, values and selecting Kaizen events and ensure proper resourcing / preparation for events.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in quality, engineering, manufacturing technology or business and five years of manufacturing experience, or an associate degree and 10 years of related manufacturing experience.
  • Leadership experience in one or more of the areas of quality, engineering, manufacturing and/or lean deployment, with multi-site quality and lean transformation responsibilities.
  • Experience successfully influencing, leading and directing associates who are not direct reports. 
  • Proven success designing, implementing, communicating, meeting goals, including improving through-put, shortening cycle time, improving inventory turns, reducing supply chain costs.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

  • Demonstrated problem solving skills using root cause analysis and other lean tools. 
  • Skilled in analytics and statistical process control, change management, and legacy quality tools such as PDCA, FMEA, control plans, etc.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to travel up to 25%.

LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITY

This position directly supervises other team members.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Typically sits, grasps items and performs keyboarding for frequent operation of a computer
  • Stand, walk, bend, reach or otherwise move about occasionally
  • Lift, move or otherwise transfer items up to 30 lbs. occasionally
  • Occasional exposure to typical machine shop physical hazards
  • Travel by air or car occasionally
