LOCATION: South Sioux City, NE

REPORTS TO: Regional Specialties Quality Manager

The Quality Control Lead will provide leadership for the implementation and continuous improvement of the SSC plant's analytical quality systems, processes and supporting records. He/she will use technical expertise, knowledge of the laboratory processes, and an understanding of company goals to work with Operations, Quality Assurance, and customers to ensure product quality. The Quality Control Lead will ensure compliance with regulatory and customer requirements and work with the site management to make these systems consistent, practical, and cost effective.

As a Quality Control Lead, your responsibilities will include:

  • Lead and manage the QC team to maintain accurate and functional quality records, instructions, and manuals in compliance with FSSC22000 and non-GMO standards. Ensure records are readily retrievable.
  • Lead the QC team to produce precise, accurate and timely test data and function as the technical expert on QC expectations for plant personnel.
  • Monitor and approve products and investigate analytical discrepancies as required, to ensure that only products that meet company, customer, and regulatory specifications are released.
  • Monitor and analyze all finished product and in-process data that entered in SAP and ensure their timely completion.
  • Direct the operation of the plant QC team to ensure the timely and proper release of products based on effective sampling and accurate and appropriate testing using Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and all safety requirements. Ensure SAP data is up to date and that relevant business processes have been followed.
  • Work with operations and quality assurance to understand current demands on laboratory services. Ensures that non-routine testing is prioritized and performed in a timely manner.
  • Provide customers, technical sales and plant operations with timely technical support related to our products including root cause investigation of customer complaints, product failures and analytical service requests from customers. Communicate trends and significant findings to management.
  • Provide training and technical support to laboratory technicians, analysts, and operators in the use of applicable analytical equipment and methodologies.
  • Drive continuous improvements. Apply scientific methodology, use of root cause and statistical analysis tools to support recommendations for process improvements.
  • Analyze, evaluate, and implement recommendations on product quality attributes.
  • Determine disposition, root cause, and corrective action in case of nonconforming product or other customer issues to ensure customer satisfaction and minimize recurring quality problems.
  • Provide technical assistance to Operations, Sales, Technical Service, Customer Service, and order coordination to support the achievement of safety, quality, production, and sales goals.

Qualified candidates will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in science, engineering, or relevant technical field.
  • Minimum of 3 years laboratory experience.
  • Minimum of 1-year supervisory experience.
  • Familiarity with laboratory/plant manufacturing environments.
  • Excellent critical thinking skills.
  • Sound technical ability and experience.
  • Experience with food safety, HACCP, and hygiene programs.
  • Good computer skills.
  • Experience with SAP.
