Position Summary 

The Quality Control Coordinator makes sure York Construction projects meet the quality standards set out in the contract documents, specifications, and applicable codes. This role is about setting clear quality benchmarks, catching details before they are built in, and making sure work is done right the first time. 


Working closely with Site Superintendents, trade partners, and consultants, you'll run pre-pour checks, inspections, and testing, manage issues and deficiencies, and lead the project’s quality control program through commissioning and turnover. 


Key Responsibilities 

Quality Planning 

  • Review prime contract and subcontract terms and conditions to understand specification and quality requirements. 
  • Review project specifications to identify quality benchmarks and establish project quality requirements. 
  • Develop and manage Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) for each project, coordinating with various parties required for hold points and inspections. 
  • Create and implement quality assurance forms.  Work with Field team to ensure compliance on projects. 
  • Support the development of a Quality Assurance system, leveraging industry experience to provide recommendations 
  • Coordinate daily QA/QC activities with the construction schedule. 
  • Assist in the planning and documentation of mock-ups. 

Pre-Pour & Field Coordination 

  • Work with Site Superintendents on pre-pour reviews and pour phasing plans. 
  • Work with trade partners and superintendents to plan pour phasing to adhere to schedule. 
  • Verify all details are captured prior to pours, including elevations, dimensions, coordinates, block outs, and anchor bolt locations. 
  • Coordinate block-outs and sleeves with civil, mechanical, and electrical trade partners. 
  • Confirm duct, sprinkler, and electrical run locations and elevations. 
  • Manage preboard and other required QA forms. 
  • Create field instructions and manage sign-offs from consultants, the owner, and the client, including utility, lighting, cable tray, crane block, and device locations, and handrail modifications. 

Inspection & Testing 

  • Conduct visual inspections, witness testing, and monitor site activities, documenting findings in line with the project quality plan and ITPs. 
  • Observe the operation of equipment and systems to identify hazards or deficiencies requiring adjustment or replacement. 
  • Ensure third-party testing reports, including concrete testing, compaction testing, and survey as-builts, are current and filed. 
  • Issue, track, and close out Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs). 
  • Manage project issues, including FTRs with trade and supply partners. 
  • Identify, assign, and track deficiencies through to completion well ahead of turnover. 
  • Ensure subcontractors comply with York's quality program and the contract documents. 
  • Work with field management to protect finished work. 

Commissioning & Turnover 

  • Lead commissioning and turnover meetings. 
  • Collect commissioning and turnover documents, and prepare quality turnover packages for client handover and project close-out. 

 Collaboration 

  • Provide technical support to site staff and trades. 
  • Build and maintain relationships with clients, consultants, and trade partners, with a focus on client needs. 
  • Stay informed of industry innovations and construction methods. 
  • Constantly strive to improve company processes and the quality of the finished product. 
  • Act as a leader in our business - build, champion and defend our culture. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 

What you bring to York 

  • Degree in Engineering or Technology designation, Construction Management, or related discipline. 
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in quality control in the construction industry. 
  • Knowledge of Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), NCRs, and quality documentation, with hands-on experience in field inspection, testing, and verification. 
  • Experience with pre-pour reviews, block-out and sleeve coordination, and commissioning and turnover processes. 
  • Solid understanding of current building systems, materials, construction methods, and building codes, including concrete and asphalt materials and testing procedures. 
  • Experience on design-build light industrial and commercial projects is an asset. 
  • Strong attention to detail, with analytical and problem-solving skills. 
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills, with the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced organization without compromising safety. 
  • Self-motivated, with the creativity to provide solutions. 
  • Willing to travel
