The Quality Engineer supports quality assurance initiatives, manufacturing processes, supplier quality activities, warranty investigations, and continuous improvement efforts throughout the manufacturing operation. The role works closely with Manufacturing Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, Product Engineering, and Warranty teams to ensure products and processes meet customer, regulatory, and company requirements.
The successful candidate will be a hands-on engineer who enjoys spending time on the manufacturing floor, analyzing data, solving problems, and driving quality improvements that positively impact customer satisfaction and operational performance.

Position offers a starting salary range of $78,000 - $100,000 USD  

Pay offered dependent on knowledge, skills, and experience

What You Drive at DTNA 

 

Quality Assurance & Manufacturing Support

  • Provide quality engineering support for production operations, machining, assembly, testing, and remanufacturing processes.
  • Investigate process deviations, nonconformances, and product quality issues to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Support containment activities and disposition of nonconforming material.
  • Participate in internal audits, process audits, layered audits, and product inspections.
  • Provide quality input for new products, process changes, and remanufacturing program launches.

Problem Solving & Continuous Improvement

  • Lead and facilitate structured problem-solving activities using tools such as 5 Why Analysis, Fishbone Diagrams, A3, PDCA, and Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA).
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on reducing defects, rework, scrap, warranty costs, and customer complaints.
  • Support implementation of new quality methodologies, technologies, and best practices.
  • Track corrective action effectiveness and ensure long-term sustainability of solutions.

 

Data Analysis & Warranty Support

  • Analyze quality, production, inspection, and warranty data to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
  • Collaborate with Warranty, Engineering, and Operations teams to investigate field failures and improve product reliability.
  • Develop and maintain quality performance metrics, including First Pass Yield, Cost of Quality, scrap and rework, customer returns, and warranty performance.
  • Create reports, dashboards, and presentations to communicate quality performance and improvement opportunities.

 

Measurement Systems & Inspection

  • Perform Measurement System Analysis (MSA), including Gage Repeatability and Reproducibility (Gage R&R) studies.
  • Develop, validate, and improve inspection methods and quality verification processes.
  • Utilize precision measuring equipment and test instruments to evaluate product conformance.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and GD&T requirements.
  • Assist in the selection, implementation, and review of gauges and inspection equipment.

 

Risk Management & Quality Planning

  • Lead or facilitate Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA) activities.
  • Support risk identification and mitigation efforts within manufacturing and remanufacturing processes.
  • Assist with quality planning activities to ensure robust product and process controls.

 

Supplier Quality

  • Partner with suppliers to resolve product quality concerns and implement corrective actions.
  • Support supplier quality evaluations, audits, and performance improvement activities.
  • Coordinate supplier containment and corrective action efforts when necessary.
  • Monitor incoming material quality and support vendor performance improvement initiatives.

 

Quality Systems & Compliance

  • Support compliance with ISO 9001 and other applicable quality management system requirements.
  • Maintain quality documentation, inspection standards, work instructions, and quality records.
  • Assist in the preparation, maintenance, and submission of PPAP documentation as required.
  • Participate in internal and external audits.

 

Project Leadership

  • Lead or support quality improvement projects of moderate scope and complexity.
  • Coordinate activities across multiple departments to achieve project objectives.
  • Manage project timelines, deliverables, and communication with stakeholders.

 

 

Knowledge You Should Bring 

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Quality Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related engineering discipline OR minimum of 6 years of engineering or quality experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a customer-facing quality, engineering, technical support, warranty, dealer support, field service, or related role, with demonstrated success communicating technical issues and solutions to customers, dealers, suppliers, or cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Experience supporting quality-focused projects and serving as the quality lead for project deliverables. Ability to influence, guide, and coordinate small cross-functional teams to achieve quality objectives.
  • ​2 years of experience with problem solving, quality technician, warranty technician or related field
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to spend significant time on the manufacturing floor.

 

Exceptional Candidates Might Have 

  • Experience or coursework related to quality engineering, statistical analysis, Lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, and root cause analysis.
  • Exposure to ISO 9001, IATF 16949, PPAP, PFMEA, MSA, and SPC.
  • Knowledge of blueprint reading and GD&T.
  • Experience with Power BI, Minitab, or similar analytical tools.
  • Familiarity with machining, assembly, engine testing, or manufacturing processes.
  • Basic project management experience through academic projects, internships, or industry experience.
