Job Description

Quality Engineer

Full time.

Derby, site-based

What you will be doing:

A unique and exciting opportunity has arisen to work as a Quality Engineer in the Engine Overhaul Services (EOS) team, based in Derby, UK within the Aftermarket Operations business.

The Engine Overhaul Services (EOS) facility is 27,000m2, with around 550 employees, and operational for 20 hours a day, 365 days a year. As the only wholly owned Large Engine MRO facility, with capability to maintain all modern Trent engines, EOS is fundamental to the future success of the Civil Aerospace Business.

EOS performs Engine Maintenance activity under Part 145 regulatory control on circa 140 Trent Engines per year – predominantly Trent 1000, 7000 and XWB – though this is expected to rise to circa 200 engines per year in 2025 as the facility footprint expands in line with shop visit demand.

In addition, as the only 100% Rolls-Royce owned Overhaul Shop within the global Maintenance network, EOS is heavily involved in the development of new overhaul processes and capabilities, and the management of engines that require specialist investigations.

The Quality team in EOS is responsible for supporting the activities of the entire facility, from engine strip, module overhaul, component repair, engine build, and installation of Airframer supplied parts, to the supporting functions such as Engineering, Logistics, Customer Business, Training & Competency, and Certification.

We are looking to add a high calibre, driven and enthusiastic individual into the existing team to allow us to bolster our existing commitments to support day to day compliance activities and investigation support, whilst developing new ways to support the business via the deployment of a robust Assurance Evaluation capability, all whilst the facility expands its capacity and footprint.

Responsibilities:

Your main relationships in this wide-reaching role will include Operations Managers, Quality Managers, Manufacturing Engineering Managers, Production Leaders, Health and Safety business partners, Manufacturing Engineers, Certifying Staff, Fitters, Inspectors, Operators, and Mechanics, but you will also liaise at times with Airline Customers, Regulatory bodies, and independent standards agencies.

  • Assuring the Business:
    • Carry out in depth Operating System Evaluations, to assure that the processes, governance, tools, and systems used in EOS deliver compliance to requirements seamlessly - from Regulation and Expositions, through RRMS, and down to local operating instructions and systems.
    • Carry out shop compliance overchecks (Walk the floors, process & tool checks, FOD walks, etc) in support of driving a culture of assuring Compliance and Zero Defects in our operational activities.
  • Protecting the Business:
    • Act as the voice of Quality to the business – ensuring that data, KPIs, etc are used to understand emerging trends, themes, hazards, etc, and that these are robustly communicated to all levels in EOS
    • Act as a coach to the business to ensure robust investigations are carried out into any escapes or non-compliances, such that the business builds up a robust culture of protecting itself from reoccurring issues.
    • Support the business by acting as the quality focal point for any Quality/Compliance/Regulatory questions or concerns that may arise.
  • Enabling the Business:
    • Work with the business as Quality rep on key BPD/Capability projects to enable business milestones and objectives to be met in a robust and compliant manner.
