The following is a non-exhaustive list of responsibilities and areas of ownership of a Software Engineer:
- Review user stories, requirements specifications, and technical design documents to understand product changes and provide feedback on testability.
- Collaborate with product management, UX team members, and software architects to identify gaps in usability, stability, performance, and security.
- Approach Product Managers to clarify business processes and potential gaps.
- Design and document the overall approach to product quality.
- Create detailed, comprehensive, and well-structured test plans, including outlining the test approach, integrations, and test coverage.
- Estimate, prioritize, plan, and coordinate testing activities.
- Create comprehensive test cases and execute end-to-end testing based on requirements and design.
- Design, develop, and execute automation scripts.
- Coordinate testing of new features/components/applications to ensure that the end product meets specifications.
- Ensure bugs are reported in detail and provide status updates on testing progress to stakeholders.
- Identify, record, document, and track software defects through resolution.
- Research production issues and document steps needed to reproduce problems.
- Communicate with Product Managers and Developers to ensure overall team success.
- Mentor and guide colleagues by sharing knowledge .
- Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities
Education Level
- Post-secondary degree or equivalent professional experience
Skills required:
- Strong knowledge of QA methodologies, tools, and processes
- Previous experience as lead creator of clear, concise, comprehensive test plans and cases
- Experience with both white and black box testing
- Experience working in an agile development process
Additional Relevant skills:
- Proficiency in API Testing and tools
- Proficient knowledge of SQL
- Familiarity with Performance and security testing is an advantage
Experience
- 5+ years of experience working as an QA engineer
