About the Team

Our On-Road AV Testing team ensures the reliability and safety of autonomous driving systems through rigorous real-world testing, both on public roads and in closed-course environments. We work closely with the Motion Planning, Prediction, Perception, Control, Operations, Analytics teams to develop robust testing procedures, quickly identify and reproduce issues, and collect high-quality data. Our primary goal is to uncover and validate edge cases and system behaviors that cannot be fully captured in simulation, enabling safe and confident deployment in the real world.

About the Role

As an On-Road QA Engineer, you'll be responsible for validating autonomous driving software through a combination of real-world testing and post-drive data analysis. You will plan and execute on-road test cases, investigate unexpected vehicle behavior, and work closely with development, analytics, and simulation teams to identify and reproduce issues. Your responsibilities will include preparing test plans and checklists, analyzing log data, generating targeted simulation scenarios, and delivering clear, actionable reports. Your attention to detail, technical curiosity, and cross-functional collaboration will be critical to ensuring safe and reliable AV performance in the real world.

What You'll Do
  • Plan and execute structured on-road testing for new features, bug fixes, and
  • release validation
  • Develop detailed test plans, checklists, and real-world test scenarios
  • Conduct regression testing to ensure consistent AV behavior across software
  • versions
  • Monitor and log vehicle behavior during test drives, flagging unexpected
  • outcomes
  • Analyze collected driving data to identify issues and edge cases
  • Reproduce and validate issues in simulation using real-world data
  • Organize and maintain datasets to support ongoing testing, debugging, and performance tracking
  • Create clear, actionable test reports and contribute to safety and performance
  • evaluations
  • Collaborate with Motion Planning, Prediction, Perception, and other teams to continuously improve test coverage and system reliability
  • Work closely with other QA Engineers and Safety Drivers to align on goals, share insights, and jointly drive investigation and validation efforts
  • Define, assign, and track tasks related to testing, data review, and issue triage within the QA team‍
What You'll Need
  • 3+ years of experience in software or system testing, ideally in safety-critical or complex environments
  • Proficiency in at least one programming or scripting language (e.g., Python, C++, etc.)
  • Experience working with bug-tracking and test management tools
  • Strong analytical skills and a structured, methodical approach to problem solving
  • Proactive and curious mindset with a strong desire to understand AV systems and edge-case behaviors
  • Excellent ability to plan, prioritize, and work effectively in dynamic, on-road testing environments
  • Solid understanding of traffic laws and driving behavior in real-world settings
  • Significant driving experience and full confidence in your driving skills under various conditions
Nice to Have
  • Experience with autonomous vehicle testing in real-world or simulated environments
  • Familiarity with vehicle log analysis or AV debugging workflows
  • Basic understanding of vehicle dynamics and/or common AV sensor technologies
  • Exposure to robotics, embedded systems, or safety-critical testing environments
  • Experience leading a team and/or coordinating tasks across multiple contributors
  • Ability to set priorities, assign tasks, and ensure timely follow-through by others
