Position Summary:

The Coding Quality Assurance Analyst is responsible for auditing the accuracy, completeness, and compliance of inpatient, hospital outpatient, and clinic encounters across the organization. This role conducts comprehensive audits, identifies documentation and coding gaps, and collaborates with coders, clinicians, and Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) teams to advance coding quality, and accuracy.

Must have an in-depth understanding of coding and compliance rules and regulations, knowledge of the Electronic Health Record (EHR). 

Some components of the major job duties may or may not pertain to your position, depending on the coding area you are responsible for.

Required Qualifications:

Education, Experience or Equivalent Combination:

  • Requires completion of a coding education program, degree in Health Information Management or related field, or equivalent coding experience.
  • Three years coding experience

Licensure/ Registration/ Certification:

  • Must hold an approved coding certification (CCA, COC, CCS, CPC, CCS P, RHIT, or RHIA).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge in using CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10 CM, PCS coding guidelines, rules and regulations, intermediate knowledge of anatomy, physiology, disease processes and medical terminology
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to create excel spreadsheets and pivot tables for reporting and data analysis.
  • Must be able to work independently, apply time management and critical thinking skills, and have strong decision-making skills.
  • Must be a highly skilled and experienced coder who can work independently.
  • Ability to present information in one-on-one and/or group settings and communicate information in a professional and confident manner.
  • Must have a thorough understanding of revenue cycle stream.

Preferred Qualifications:

Education, Experience or Equivalent Combination:

  • Three to Five years coding experience
  • Epic experience preferred
  • Experience working with online coding resources and other related software programs.
  • Strong E & M and/or Inpatient coding experience

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge in using CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10 CM, PCS coding guidelines, rules and regulations, advanced knowledge of anatomy, physiology, disease processes and medical terminology
  • Ability to present and communicate information in either individual and/or group settings in a professional and confident manner.
