Job Description

At Trupanion, our mission is to help pet owners care for their pets by removing the financial stress of veterinary care. We are looking for a QA Test Analyst I to join our Member Experience Technology team and help ensure the quality, reliability, and usability of our member-facing applications.

In this role, you will be responsible for black-box testing across our enrollment and Member Experience platforms, including our enrollment website, iOS and Android mobile applications, and member portal web applications. You will collaborate closely with product managers, developers, and fellow quality engineers to validate new functionality, identify defects, and advocate for an exceptional member experience. Our enrollment process is a business-critical function, and so this role will require someone who can operate with urgency, high attention to detail, strong sense of ownership, and clear, proactive communication skills.  Additionally, this position is ideal for someone early in their software quality career who is curious and passionate about delivering high-quality digital experiences who truly believes in our mission of bringing about the best experiences to our pets and pet parents.

Schedule: This role follows a Thursday through Monday schedule, working standard business hours in either the Pacific Time (PT) or Eastern Time (ET) zone. Team members are expected to work onsite from our casual, pet-friendly Seattle office on Thursdays, Fridays, and Mondays.

Responsibilities:

  • Execute manual black-box testing against member-facing web and mobile applications.
  • Validate new features, enhancements, bug fixes, and production releases against business and functional requirements.
  • Create, maintain, and execute test cases, test scenarios, and regression test suites for these critical business functions.
  • Execute prepared test scripts and validation procedures to ensure the complete member enrollment journey is functioning as designed and free of defects prior to release.
  • Identify, document, and communicate issues with urgency and clarity.
  • Validate application behavior across supported browsers, devices, operating systems, and platforms.
  • Monitor for issues that could prevent members from successfully completing enrollment and promptly document findings with sufficient detail for investigation and resolution.
  • Immediately escalate enrollment-blocking defects and other critical production-impacting issues to technology leadership and appropriate stakeholders to support rapid response and remediation.
  • Partner with engineering, product, and operations teams during critical releases to help ensure uninterrupted enrollment availability and a seamless member experience.
  • Support release validation and post-release verification activities.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of QA processes, testing standards, and team best practices.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, or a related field; or equivalent practical experience.
  • 0 to 2 years of experience in software quality assurance, software testing, or a related technical role.
  • Familiarity of Agile development methodologies desired.
  • Familiarity with web and mobile application testing concepts.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to learn new technologies and business processes quickly.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Ability to work flexible shifts for testing based on need.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Internship, co-op, academic, project experience, or professional experience involving software testing or quality assurance.
  • Experience testing web applications and/or mobile applications.
  • Familiarity with defect tracking and test management tools such as Jira, Azure DevOps, Xray or similar platforms.
  • Experience working in an Agile environment.
  • Basic understanding of API testing concepts and software testing methodologies.
  • Exposure to test automation tools and frameworks.

Compensation:

  • The base salary for this position is $80,500 on a full-time schedule.
  • Along with base compensation, Trupanion employees are currently eligible for monthly bonuses.
  • We want all employees to be invested in Trupanion’s success, so we grant Restricted Stock Units to all new team members. Our new hire grants vest over 4 years.
