As Physics Curriculum Lead for QLD, you own the source of truth for physics in this state: the QCAA syllabus, the exam patterns, the student pitfalls, the marking schemes, the assumed knowledge, the IA patterns, the school outlines. That body of knowledge is what lets every QLD Physics resource get built accurately, consistently, and in a way students actually learn from. You report to the Head of Subject, and you are what lets Contour run a state-specific, QCAA-aligned program without a separate Head of Subject in every state.

This isn’t a keep-the-lights-on role. You are the strategic director and the quality gate for everything Physics in QLD, directing production rather than writing every question yourself, but owning whether it’s good. What you build should compound over time and outlast you, so the next person inherits a head start, not a blank page.

It’s part-time. Staying close to the classroom is what keeps the source of truth honest, so tutoring with Contour in Brisbane is strongly preferred and compensated separately, and it’s where you’ll see whether a resource lands or breaks.

What You’ll Do

As our QLD Physics Curriculum Lead, you’ll own the curriculum for physics across the state and direct everything built from it.

• Own the source of truth. Build and maintain the curriculum bible for QLD physics: QCAA syllabus, recurring exam questions and command words, per-topic student pitfalls, marking-scheme insight, common IA patterns, assumed knowledge, and a working catalogue of how schools sequence the subject. Structure it so a Resource Developer (or, in time, AI) can build aligned resources from it without coming back to you.
• Turn it into the live program. Translate the source of truth into pacing, topic sequencing, and question-type maps, kept roughly one to two weeks ahead of where most QLD schools are teaching, plus school-specific workshops that match each school’s outline and assessment timing.
• Get students through IAs and the external. Design the materials, support systems, and pacing students need for each Internal Assessment and the external exam. Embed the small but crucial examiner insights into the workbooks and revision materials, and flag where a workshop or 1:1 consult is needed beyond the resources.
• Direct production, own quality. Plan each resource upstream from the source of truth and hand production to Resource Developers. You can delegate question-by-question review to another QLD tutor, but the quality of the booklet is yours. Roughly 100 workbooks a year move through this, ready at least four weeks ahead of class, with solutions copies as a non-negotiable part of done.
• Hold the quality gate. Sign off resources before they reach the Head of Subject, and when a mistake surfaces, own it and patch it promptly through the relevant edits channel. Accuracy, formatting, and polish are the standard, no exceptions.
• Stay in the classroom and feed it back. Keep tutoring physics, and use what you see (where students are confused, where a workbook lands, where it doesn’t) to make the source of truth more accurate over time.
• Push the curriculum forward. Stay current on QCAA changes and on how the subject is best taught, contribute to curriculum reviews, and pitch new resource initiatives, judged on one bar: what is best for the students.

Who You Are

• A QLD Physics Top Scorer. You sat physics in Queensland and earned a top result in both (a high A / top band). This is non-negotiable.
• An Experienced Teacher. You have a strong track record of teaching and student outcomes. Tutoring with Contour in Brisbane is strongly preferred, and either way you stay close to how students actually experience the subject.
• Curriculum-Obsessed. You have real opinions on how physics is sequenced, taught, and examined in QLD, and on exactly what students get wrong and why.
• A Documenter. You build durable knowledge in writing rather than carrying it in your head, and you treat the source of truth as the deliverable, not a by-product.
• A Director, Not a Bottleneck. You can brief and steer Resource Developers, coordinate review, and keep things moving without becoming the thing everything waits on.
• Detail-Obsessed. You hold an error-free, polished standard at the quality-gate stage. Sloppy work and inconsistent formatting bother you.
• An Owner With Bandwidth. You hit deadlines, own mistakes, and patch issues without being chased, and you have the part-time hours to give curriculum work on top of your tutoring.
• Mission-Driven. Every call gets filtered through what is best for the students.

Bonus Points: You’ve taught physics in QLD specifically, you have experience with QCAA Internal Assessments, and you’re comfortable using AI tooling to move faster on documentation and drafting once the physics is already right in your own hands.
