POSITION SUMMMARY:
The QA/QC engineer will support the quality assurance and quality control program for data center construction projects. The successful candidate will work under the guidance of senior QA/QC personnel to perform inspections, document non-conformances and verify that all mechanical, electrical and plumbing installations comply with project requirements and industry standards. Responsibilities include performing Quality Control inspections and resolution in field, including reviewing work quality, safety, and monitoring performance.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct routine and scheduled inspections of electrical, mechanical, plumbing equipment, cabling and systems within the data center, including generators, switchgear, UPS systems, HVAC systems and fire protection systems.
- Assist in preparing and submitting quality control procedures, inspection checklists and inspection and test plans.
- Identify, document and track non-conformances and deficiencies, and assist in implementing corrective actions.
- Ensure that all materials and equipment delivered to the site match approved submittals and are in good condition.
- Verify that installations adhere to design documents, contract specifications and applicable codes and standards.
- Support internal and external quality audits and ensure proper documentation of quality records.
- Prepare daily and weekly quality reports detailing inspection results, non-conformances and corrective actions.
- Work closely with the general contractors, vendors and commissioning team to ensure quality standards are met at every project stage.
- Contribute to a strong on-site safety culture and assist the project team with additional tasks assigned.
- Develop and implement site specific QA/QC plans, inspection checklists, and procedures.
- Participate in FATs and FWTs.
- Participate in all levels of commissioning and turnover.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Familiarity with industry codes, standards and testing procedures (i.e., ANSI/TIA, NEC).
- Basic understanding of mechanical and electrical systems, power distribution and HVAC systems.
- Proficient with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and technical specifications.
- A meticulous approach to spotting inconsistencies or deviations from specifications.
- Proactive and analytical mindset for identifying issues and contributing to solutions.
- Strong written and verbal skills for communicating findings and collaborating with different teams.
- Ability to work with cross functional teams in fast paced environments.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management or a related technical field is preferred.
- 3+ years of experience in a QA/QC, construction or technical role within a mission critical environment. Data center experience preferred.
- Familiarity with construction management (i.e., Helix, Bluebeam, Procore) is a plus.
- Basic understanding of construction processes, equipment systems (electrical, mechanical) and industry standards.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift heavy equipment, up to 50 lbs.
- Use of sight, hearing and voice are required as well as motor skills.
- Close visual work on a computer terminal.
- Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate any required to operate computer keyboard, mouse, and other technical instruments.
- Ability to climb ladders and work on raised platforms.
- Ability to transition through construction projects at every phase safely
Work Conditions
- This position is expected to be full-time, on site, in field.
- Typical data center work environment with varying temperatures and loud noises.
- Extensive daily usage of a computer or workstation.
- Travel up to 10%, to ensure quality, commission and deliver the project as clients turn over dates require.
Special Requirements
- Must be comfortable working in a high stress, fast paced environment shifting priorities.
- Must be willing to work outside normal business hours, including weekends, late nights, holidays, and on-call support.
- Must be available by cell phone after hours or for emergency situations.
- Must possess a current, valid state-issued driver’s license.
Skills Required
- 3+ years of experience in QA/QC, construction, or a technical role within a mission-critical environment
- Bachelor's degree in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related technical field
- Data center experience
- Familiarity with industry codes, standards, and testing procedures, including ANSI/TIA and NEC
- Basic understanding of mechanical and electrical systems, power distribution, HVAC systems, construction processes, equipment systems, and industry standards
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and technical specifications

- Ability to lift equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, and work on raised platforms
- Ability to work full-time on site in a construction environment
