The key function of the QA Lead is to manage and provide direction to the corresponding QA team by setting testing standards and determining task priorities. They take responsibility for successful testing and report defects to relevant stakeholders. They play a leadership role within the team by training and managing their direct reports.
 
This role is a full-time, on-site position based 5 days a week at our Downtown Vancouver studio.

In this role, you can expect to:

    Team Management and Direction:
  • Provide clear direction, priorities, and guidance to their reports. 
  • Support and mentor individual team members to foster their career development and growth.
  • Foster a safe, respectful and collaborative working environment for all members. 
  • Effectively manage their corresponding team’s performance and ownership.
  • Task Coordination and Prioritization:
  • Collaborate with Production and QA Team Lead to determine task priorities for each release. 
  • Coordinate with team members to establish a Test Plan/Schedule for the project, ensuring effective coordination and updates for each area.
  • Testing and Defect Reporting:
  • Take responsibility for the successful testing and reporting of defects for the assigned area.
  • Ensure thorough testing coverage and adherence to quality standards.
  • Work Closely with Outsource Vendor(s) to help execute our Test Plan and Strategy.
  • Resource Allocation and Staffing:
  • Ensure their team members’ area coverage and capacity is planned out according to priorities provided by the production team and QA Team Lead.
  • Optimize resource allocation to maximize efficiency and effectiveness in testing activities.
  • Provide feedback and recommendations for internal and external testing coverage to the QA Team Lead.
  • Communication and Reporting:
  • Communicate status and progress at regular intervals to a variety of audiences in various formats, such as team meetings, reports, or presentations.
  • Provide timely updates to stakeholders on the QA team's activities, milestones, and risks.
  • Risk Management:
  • Effectively manage risks related to testing, identifying potential issues and implementing mitigation strategies.
  • Monitor and address any quality-related risks throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Work with the Team Lead in documenting Live Issue Analysis investigation results.
  • Career Development:
  • Take responsibility for the career development of their individual team members, providing guidance, feedback, and opportunities for growth.
  • Support and encourage continuous learning and improvement within the team.
  • Quality Advocacy:
  • Promote a "quality first" approach to decision-making, emphasizing the importance of delivering a high-quality gaming product.
  • Advocate for quality standards and best practices within the team and across the organization.
  • KPI Management:
  • Be accountable for the area team’s performance.
  • Drive the assigned area to hit Key Performance Indicator (KPI) targets, such as defect closure rate, test coverage, or release stability.
  • Monitor and analyze relevant metrics to ensure project success and drive continuous improvement.
  • Coaching and Mentoring Team members:
  • Direct and mentor their Reports on best practices.
  • Share knowledge and experience with team members.

To be successful in this role, your background includes:

  • High school diploma.
  • Extensive experience in testing Triple A  games throughout the entire dev cycle. 
  • 7+ years of Triple A Game testing experience; preferably  5+ years of experience testing Live Services games.
  • Experience in leading and managing  internal and external QA teams.
  • Strong tech capabilities and experience with JIRA, Confluence and Test Script Managing, and other QA-related software and testing tools. 
  • Strong aptitude to learn new tools, tech and processes.
  • Familiarity with variety of device types/testing platforms and build processes.
