Why Pear Suite? We’re a mission-driven team committed to health equity and innovation in community-based care. You’ll thrive here if you’re eager to take initiative, value autonomy, and enjoy building structure where none exists. Join us to build scalable, human-centered technology that empowers frontline workers and improves lives across the U.S.
About the role
You will be the first and primary QA engineer at our company, which means you won’t just write tests, you’ll architect our entire quality strategy. We’re looking for someone who has lived in that team of one world before: someone who knows how to prioritize ruthlessly, automate intelligently, and advocate for quality without slowing down a fast-moving engineering org.
This role sits at the intersection of traditional QA excellence and modern AI-assisted testing. You’ll leverage tools like Claude and other LLMs to accelerate test creation, improve coverage analysis, and bring intelligent automation to areas that used to require manual effort.
What you'll do
Build & Own the QA Foundation
- Design, implement, and maintain our end-to-end test automation framework from scratch, selecting architecture patterns, tooling, and CI/CD integration.
- Establish QA processes, standards, and best practices that scale as the team grows.
- Own the test pyramid: unit, integration, end-to-end, performance, and exploratory coverage.
- Create and maintain test environments, data strategies, and tooling infrastructure.
Automation Engineering
- Write robust, maintainable automated E2E tests using Playwright.
- Integrate test suites into CI/CD pipelines.
- Implement visual regression, API, and performance testing as needed.
AI-Augmented Quality
- Use Claude and other LLMs to assist with test case generation, coverage gap analysis, and test data synthesis.
- Work with the engineering team to identify where AI can meaningfully reduce manual QA burden.
Cross-Functional Partnership
- Perform risk-based test planning for releases, triaging what to automate, what to test manually, and what to defer.
- Triage, document, and track bugs; communicate clearly with engineering on reproduction steps and severity.
- Serve as the quality voice in architecture discussions, feature design reviews, and incident retrospectives.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of software quality engineering experience in fast-paced, startup environments
- Proven track record of building a QA framework from scratch, not just contributing to an existing one
- Working proficiency with Selenium, Cypress or Playwright
- Experience using AI tools in a QA or software development workflow
- Strong programming skills in at least one of: TypeScript, JavaScript, or Python
- Experience integrating test automation into CI/CD pipelines
- Solid understanding of web application architecture, APIs (REST/GraphQL), and browser DevTools
