Test Automation Engineer – Data Engineering and Test Automation
This role requires working from our local Hyderabad office 2-3x a week
INTRODUCTION:
As a Test Automation Engineer on the Insights team at ABC, you’ll play a key role in shaping how we build trust in the data that powers our products. You’ll work closely with our data engineering and reporting teams, who deliver critical insights to gyms and fitness franchises through high-impact dashboards and analytics. Your focus is enabling fast, reliable feedback across our data pipelines, helping teams catch issues early, validate assumptions and deliver with confidence.
This is more than a test automation role, it’s an opportunity to coach teams on quality, guide automation strategy and embed testing into every stage of the data lifecycle. You’ll lead workshops on testability and observability, contribute to risk-based planning and help evolve our testing practices from reactive validation to proactive enablement.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:
- Collaborate with the team to design and implement automated testing frameworks for data pipelines (ETL/ELT), data transformations and reporting layers
- Coach and provide guidance on test automation approaches and practices across the department
- Build test automation skills and knowledge across the data product development teams for both our developers and testers
- Introduce innovative solutions to important testing challenges
- Promote the importance of test automation and pipeline health in the data engineering teams
- Advocate and support the inclusion of test automation as part of every release
- Develop and maintain data quality dashboards and alerts
- Collaborate with data engineers to implement testable, scalable pipeline architectures
- Integrate data validation into CI/CD pipelines and automation workflows
- Create mock/staging data sets to support testing scenarios for edge cases and performance benchmarking
- Participate in incident reviews for data quality issues
- Contribute to improving observability, monitoring and automated alerting in data systems
- Facilitate conversations about risk, quality and trade-offs across cross-functional teams
- Lead workshops and sessions on testability, exploratory testing and monitoring
- Champion a whole-team approach to quality, enabling others to take ownership of testing and quality practices
WHAT YOU’LL NEED:
- All applicants must be able to work from our Hyderabad office 2-3x a week
- 5+ years of demonstrable hands-on experience in working with test automation frameworks for data pipelines (ETL/ELT), data transformations and reporting layers
- Proficiency in SQL, with experience validating complex data transformations
- Experience with automated testing tools and frameworks, such as Great Expectations, pytest, or custom Python-based testing
- Familiarity with data orchestration tools (e.g., Apache Airflow, Azure Data Factory)
- Solid understanding of data warehousing concepts, ETL/ELT processes and modern data stack tools (e.g., Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery)
- Knowledge of data governance, data lineage and metadata management principles
- Excellent communication and documentation skills
- A mindset aligned with ABC’s testing vision: building quality together, automating with purpose, creating safe spaces for better conversations and enabling, not gatekeeping
AND IT’S GREAT TO HAVE:
- Experience in coaching teams and mentoring others in quality practices
- Experience in testing in production and working with observability tools
- Exposure to reliability engineering principles
- Experience in security and performance testing
- Familiarity with continuous delivery practices and CI/CD pipelines
- Active involvement in testing communities or quality-focused initiatives
