QA Engineer - Chennai/Bangalore

Who are we? 

The Automation candidate will drive the automation initiative and possess strong knowledge of industry best practices in automation. This position requires a combination of people management and technical expertise, with an emphasis on a QA/Development (SDET) skillset. The role involves automating tests, with limited manual execution, to develop the testing strategy for a given task. The ideal candidate will have a working understanding of interfacing applications, test environments, testing services tools, and methodologies. Responsibilities also include test strategy formulation, decomposing business and technical requirements into test case scenarios, defining test data requirements, managing test case creation, devising contingency plans, and other preparation activities. During the test lifecycle, this person will develop the test case execution plan, create test runs, manage issues, report metrics, and create/maintain automation scripts. Additional responsibilities include acting as a liaison between business testing resources and the development team, investigating, monitoring, and reporting issues. The candidate will be responsible for leveraging testing tools and processes wherever possible, including Cypher automation. Overtime may be required on an as-needed basis.

Responsibilities

Day-to-day responsibilities include:

• Understanding QA Automation best practices, automation frameworks (e.g., Cypher automation, Appium, UFT, Test Studio), test planning, script execution, and maintenance.
• Understanding software development processes.
• Developing and maintaining test plans; developing manual and automated test cases for application projects.
• Performing assigned testing as per the Test Plan; documenting and reporting discovered issues.
• Creating and executing smoke/regression tests for revised applications.
• Maintaining records of all application testing; preparing reports summarizing testing results.
• Collaborating with developers and users to optimize testing, defect isolation, and defect tracking.
• Formulating a test strategy based on technical specification documents and business requirements.
• Communicating effectively with IT management, offshore teams, and business users.
• Resolving issues in testing environments with strong analytical and problem management skills.
• Multi-tasking across a wide range of test environments and projects.
• Participating in large, complex technology projects.
• Exposure to .Net technologies, web services, APIs, stored procedures, and middle-tier applications.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a computer-related field.
• 3-5 years’ experience as a software tester, with emphasis on writing test plans, manual and automated testing experience.
• 3-5 years’ hands-on experience with automation suites, including Cypher automation, Appium, JMeter, NUnit, TestNG, Gherkin syntax (or similar BDD frameworks), UFT.
• 3-5 years of experience with web-enabling technologies, including web enterprise servers, web programming languages, SQL databases, and exposure to client/server development.
• Experience with end-to-end software system testing.
• Availability to work various shifts, extended hours, and provide on-call support as required.

Preferred:

• Exposure to .Net technologies, web services, stored procedures, and middle-tier applications.
• Understanding of or experience with virtual environments.
• Experience with application development and/or QA automation scripting using .NET, Python, C#.
