Key Responsibilities
- Test Automation Strategy & Architecture
- Own the end-to-end automation strategy aligned with business goals and engineering best practices.
- Lead initiatives to increase automation maturity, test coverage, and release confidence.
- Standardize practices across QA teams to ensure consistency and scalability.
- Promote a shift-left approach to testing, driving early validation through CI/CD integration.
- Tooling & Technology Leadership
- Evaluate and recommend tools and frameworks (e.g., Playwright, Cypress, Selenium) that align with team needs and architecture.
- Define automation best practices and coding standards.
- Collaborate with DevOps to ensure infrastructure supports distributed execution, scalability, and performance testing.
- Leadership & Quality Culture
- Provide technical leadership and mentoring to QA engineers and developers.
- Champion a quality culture where QA is a shared responsibility across development and product teams.
- Lead technical reviews and act as a hands-on coach for QA strategy adoption across squads.
- Drive quality transformation initiatives in alignment with stakeholder input and roadmap goals.
- Cross-functional Collaboration
- Align QA practices with developers, product managers, and engineering leaders.
- Design scalable test strategies that integrate well across diverse tech stacks (including backend services, cloud platforms, and on-premise systems).
- Test Execution & Continuous Improvement
- Ensure appropriate test coverage across functional, regression, performance, and security domains.
- Implement data strategies to support reliable automated test runs.
- Use KPIs and team metrics to improve process quality and delivery speed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
- 10+ years in software quality assurance, with at least 3 years in a QA automation architect or similar leadership role.
- Deep expertise in UI automation frameworks (e.g., Selenium, Cypress, Playwright).
- Strong experience in API automation (e.g., Postman, RestAssured, KarateDSL).
- Proficiency in programming/scripting languages (e.g., Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, C#).
- Familiarity with CI/CD tools (Azure DevOps, Jenkins, CircleCI) and Git.
- Experience with containerized environments and cloud platforms (e.g., Docker, AWS, GCP).
Preferred Skills
- Experience with performance testing tools (e.g., JMeter, Gatling).
- Knowledge of microservices and event-driven systems.
- ISTQB or similar certification is a plus.
