Operating within an industrial filtration manufacturing environment, this role ensures that all products—particularly industrial filter bags and associated materials—are manufactured in line with customer specifications, regulatory requirements, and company standards, while maintaining a safe and compliant workplace.
The role holder will act as the site subject matter expert for Quality and HSE, driving a culture of accountability, continuous compliance, and operational excellence, whilst ensuring alignment with UK legislation and corporate standards.
Responsibilities:
Quality Management
• Own and manage the site Quality Management System (QMS), ensuring full compliance with ISO9001 and internal standards.
• Ensure all manufacturing processes operate within defined specifications, particularly across textile and filtration production processes (e.g. cutting, sewing, finishing, and treatment of filter media).
• Develop, implement, and maintain quality procedures.
• Lead internal and external audits, ensuring audit readiness and timely closure of any non-conformances.
• Investigate customer complaints, ensuring robust root cause analysis and implementation of effective corrective and preventive actions within agreed timelines.
• Monitor and report key quality KPIs, including product variation, defect rates, and customer complaints.
• Promote a “right first time” and “stop work” quality culture across the site.
• Ensure consistency in manufacturing techniques, materials, and regulatory compliance across all operations.
Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Management
• Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of site HSE management systems in line with UK legislation and company standards.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation including the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, COSHH, DSEAR, and other applicable regulations.
• Act as the site subject matter expert and key point of contact for all HSE matters, including liaison with regulatory authorities.
• Develop and deliver HSE strategy and site-level initiatives aligned to corporate objectives.
• Ensure robust risk assessments are in place, regularly reviewed, and updated in line with operational changes.
• Oversee incident investigation processes, ensuring thorough root cause analysis (e.g. 5 Whys, Ishikawa) and completion of corrective actions.
• Manage occupational health surveillance and environmental monitoring (e.g. dust/fibre exposure) in line with industry requirements.
• Ensure emergency response procedures are established, tested, and maintained through drills and exercises.
• Monitor and report HSE performance through KPIs, ensuring visibility at site and group level.
Compliance, Training & Culture
• Ensure all employees, including agency and contractors, receive appropriate HSE inductions and ongoing training.
• Drive a positive safety culture through coaching, engagement, and visible leadership.
• Support and guide managers to improve safety behaviours and ensure compliance with safe systems of work.
• Maintain site compliance with ISO standards (e.g. ISO9001, ISO14001 where applicable).
• Ensure all procedures, policies, and specifications are up to date, communicated effectively, and consistently applied.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records across quality and HSE systems, including audits, incidents, inspections, and corrective actions.
• Manage documentation control processes to ensure compliance and traceability.
• Oversee supplier and partner quality assurance requirements where applicable.
• Support governance processes and provide regular reporting to site and group leadership teams.
Qualifications & Experience
• Degree or equivalent in Engineering, Quality, Environmental Health & Safety, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
• NEBOSH Diploma (or working towards) in Occupational Health and Safety.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in a Quality and/or HSE leadership role within a manufacturing environment.
