Business Development Manager – Pulp and Paper – US South - GA, AL, LA, MS region

POSITION SUMMARY:

DuBois Chemicals is looking for an experienced senior sales professional to expand within the pulp and paper specialty chemicals market. The Business Development Manager (BDM) should be driven and eager to identify, develop, and close new business opportunities efficiently. The candidate should demonstrate core skills such as communication, customer focus, innovation, and integrity.

 KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Aggressively increase profitability and expand business in the Pulp and Paper market. The BDM role is a fast-paced sales position with minimal service duties.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities by researching markets, finding potential clients, and developing strategies to approach them..
  • Build strong relationships with existing customers, ensuring their needs are met, and identify opportunities for upselling or cross-selling.
  • Develop and execute business growth plans to increase market share and meet revenue goals.
  • Negotiate and close contracts and agreements with customers.
  • Regularly monitor market trends and competitor activities to develop effective sales strategies.
  • Collaborate with other sales team members, portfolio managers, and product development teams to ensure a cohesive approach to business development.
  • Report business activities and results (Key Performance Indicators) to leadership.
  • Build a robust sales pipeline that supports expected profitable growth.
  • Manage a complex sale that involves multiple contacts and potentially longer sales cycles.
  • Travel to visit current customers and prospective customers to increase sales and profitability.
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions with or without accommodations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • 10+ years’ experience with sales to pulp and paper in the Southern U.S.
  • Specialty chemicals sales experience preferred, but background in sales of equipment or other key paper industry inputs will also be considered.
  • A strong understanding of the customer base in the region.
  • Demonstrated track record of successful high-level sales.
  • Strong consultation, negotiation, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven demonstration of negotiating contracts and agreements.
  • Ability to analyze market data and develop effective growth strategies.
  • Strong understanding of market dynamics, competitor activities, and customer needs.
  • Ability to manage complex projects and ensure timely execution.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, CRM (Customer Relationship Management), and lead generation tools.
  • Ability to travel 50% or more of the time, including overnight travel.

EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering field, Business Administration, and/or Organizational Development.
