Job Description

WaterBrook Children’s, an imprint of Random House Children’s Books, seeks a Publishing Assistant to join the team. We are looking for a proactive, detail-oriented Publishing Assistant to be an essential member of the Publishing team, supporting the Publishing Director and helping plan the division’s publishing programs.

This position offers a unique perspective on WaterBrook Children's strategy and operations, where we publish a diverse list of thoughtfully written and produced books in the Christian children’s space. Our list includes award winners and bestsellers across both the faith and general markets. We publish books for children ages 0 to 18 in a wide variety of formats—from board books and picture books to middle-grade and young adult novels to devotionals, illustrated Bible storybooks, and graphic novels. Authors on our list include Andrew Peterson, Lisa Tawn Bergren, Mitali Perkins, Elisabeth Hasselbeck, Tim Tebow, Jordan Raynor, and Tasha Cobbs Leonard.

As the Publishing Assistant, you will be part of a fun and fast-paced group. You'll meet and work closely with many colleagues in other departments within the division, especially Editorial, Art, Marketing, and Publicity. The role is ideal for someone who loves reading, is a detail-focused self-starter, and is a strong communicator, organizer, and multi-tasker.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide administrative support for Publishing Director and other editorial staff
  • Maintain schedules and due dates for individual titles as well as seasonal pipelines and other major projects
  • Provide organizational assistance on senior staff’s title lists and imprint initiatives
  • Liaise with other departments to facilitate the bookmaking process and imprint initiatives
  • Communicate with authors and agents to assist with requests, answer questions, and provide updates as appropriate
  • Provide editorial feedback and/or brainstorming on projects acquired by senior staff when appropriate and serve as second set of eyes for potential acquisitions
  • Assist with copywriting including jacket, metadata, and other marketing copy as required
  • Research for special projects and assist with presentations
  • Participate in editorial meetings.

Qualifications

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage complex projects
  • Eagerness to learn and ability to adapt to new processes and systems
  • Ability to identify areas of improvement and innovate creative solutions
  • Interest in the Christian children’s book marketplace
  • Strong communication, problem-solving and presentation skills
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and demonstrate strong attention to detail
  • Comfortable communicating with authors and colleagues across various departments.
