This position supports the marketing and communications efforts of the Greater Oklahoma City Chamber by managing the development, production and distribution of tourism, membership and business-related publications and editorial content. The Publications Manager is responsible for overseeing content planning, writing, editing, design coordination and production schedules for print and digital publications, while ensuring all content aligns with Visit OKC and Chamber brand standards and strategic objectives. This position works closely with internal departments, external vendors, freelancers and community partners to create compelling content that promotes Oklahoma City to visitors, meeting and sports event planners, business leaders, members and other civic stakeholders.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES

  • Manage the planning, production and distribution of Visit Oklahoma City publications, including the Official Visitor Guide, Meeting Planner Guide and other print and digital publications.
  • Develop and maintain editorial calendars, publication schedules and content plans that support the OKC Chamber and Visit OKC marketing and communications objectives.
  • Research, write, edit and proofread publication content, ensuring accuracy, consistency and adherence to AP Style and brand standards.
  • Coordinate freelance writers, photographers, designers, printers and other vendors involved in publication production.
  • Design, update and maintain publication layouts and other editorial materials using Adobe InDesign and other design tools as needed.
  • Manage publication timelines, budgets and production schedules to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Collaborate with internal departments, industry partners and community stakeholders to identify story opportunities and gather content for publications.
  • Ensure all publications and editorial content align with brand standards, messaging and visual identity.
  • Repurpose publication content for use across marketing channels, including websites, blogs, email communications and social media.
  • Assist with content development and editorial support for owned media channels, special projects and marketing initiatives.
  • Maintain publication archives, content libraries and editorial resources.
  • Evaluate publication performance and recommend enhancements to content, design, distribution and production processes.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with vendors and manage vendor performance throughout publication projects.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to carry out the responsibilities of the position, including special assignments.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, English, Marketing or a related field plus five to seven years of experience in publications, editorial content, communications, journalism, marketing or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience managing publication projects from concept through production and distribution.
  • Exceptional writing, editing and proofreading skills with extensive knowledge of AP Style.
  • Proficiency in Adobe InDesign and experience producing print and digital publications required.
  • Demonstrated expertise in managing publication budgets, vendors and production schedules.
  • Excellent organizational skills with demonstrated strong project, time management and multi-tasking abilities.
  • Excellent computer skills required, including Microsoft Office applications. Experience with content management systems, Adobe Creative Suite and email marketing platforms preferred.
  • Must be a detailed self-starter with a proven track record of success under general supervision and be able to work within a defined organizational structure.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • History of strong vendor management and relationship-building skills.
  • Willingness to work a flexible work schedule. Some hours beyond 40 hours per week may be necessary.
  • Position requires extended periods of sitting in an office environment while utilizing a computer keyboard, monitor and mouse.
  • Must be able to travel independently. Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license are required. High amount of mobility is necessary. Travel may be required.
  • Must be able to lift and carry 30 pounds.
