About the Opportunity
The Public Services and Access Librarian contributes to the mission of Cressman Library through innovative and effective leadership of the Library's public services, access systems, student engagement initiatives, and community partnerships. The Librarian provides oversight of circulation, course reserves, interlibrary loan services, stacks management, acquisitions workflows, and resource access functions supported through OCLC WorldShare Management Services, serving as the key administrator of the Library's OCLC environment. The Librarian serves as the point person for the Library's Student Leadership Program, hiring, training, and supervising student employees while fostering opportunities for leadership development and professional growth. Working collaboratively with Library leadership, the Librarian assists with the development and implementation of library policies, procedures, and programs and serves as a member of the Research and Information Literacy Instruction Team, providing research support and information literacy instruction.
Key Responsibilities
Lending and Access Services:

Provide leadership and oversight of public and access services, including circulation, course reserves, interlibrary loan services, and print stacks management.

Serve as the primary administrator of OCLC WorldShare Management Services (WMS), including circulation, patron management, resource sharing, record management, reporting, and system maintenance.

Generate, analyze, and communicate data related to circulation, resource sharing, patron engagement, and collection usage to support assessment and decision-making.

Coordinate acquisitions workflows, including purchasing of print materials, receiving, invoice processing, and record maintenance in collaboration with library staff.

Collaborate with Library leadership to evaluate, improve, and document workflows that support resource discovery, access, and collection management.

Monitor trends, identify service improvements, and recommend enhancements to public and access services that improve the user experience.
Student Worker Supervision:

Serve as the point person for the Library's Student Leadership Program, including the recruitment, hiring, training, scheduling, supervision, and evaluation of student employees.

Develop and maintain training materials, workflows, and professional development opportunities that prepare student employees to provide high-quality library services.

Mentor student employees through projects, events, and experiential learning opportunities that foster leadership, communication, and professional growth.

Develop and implement activities, programs, and projects that connect student employees with the campus and broader community while enhancing the user experience.

Assess the effectiveness of student employee training and leadership initiatives and recommend improvements to support student success and operational excellence.
Outreach, Partnerships, and Strategic Initiatives

Represent Cressman Library at campus events and engagement opportunities, including admissions programs, orientation activities, accepted student events, alumni programs, and other College-sponsored initiatives.

Develop, maintain, and strengthen partnerships with local schools, businesses, public libraries, and community organizations in support of literacy, learning, and community engagement.

Serve as a steward of the #WeRead360 Library, coordinating collection promotion, outreach activities, and partnerships that support teacher education, literacy development, and experiential learning opportunities.

Collaborate with faculty, staff, students, and community partners to develop programs, exhibits, displays, and initiatives that increase awareness and use of library resources and services.

Create and contribute content that promotes Library services, collections, programs, and events through a variety of communication channels.

Plan, implement, assess, and document special projects and strategic initiatives as assigned by the Library Director.
Research and Instruction

Serve as a member of the Research and Information Literacy Instruction team, providing virtual and in-person reference services, one-on-one consultations, and in-class instruction.

Serve as Subject Librarian for academic departments as assigned, building and maintaining relationships with faculty to support teaching, learning, and research needs.
Professional Development

Stay current with developments in the library profession and demonstrate the ability to learn new techniques and adapt to new paradigms.

Develop and model excellent customer service and demonstrate a strong commitment to creating a diverse and inclusive learning and work environment.

Represent Cressman Library at appropriate LVAIC meetings and committees

Participate in professional organizations, conferences, and workshops to network and share knowledge.
What We're Looking For
Education and Training
-
Master’s degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS) from an ALA-accredited program required.
-
Prior experience in a supervisory role required.
-
Experience with OCLC WorldShare Management Services (WMS) or a comparable integrated library system required.

Experience providing library instruction, research report, or classroom teaching required or strongly preferred.
-
Experience working in an academic setting preferred.
-
Demonstrated experience providing exceptional customer service.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.

Proficiency with computers and office automation, including word processing and knowledge of the Microsoft Office environment.

Strong organizational and time management skills with demonstrated ability to triage and set priorities.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Manual dexterity in order to operate a personal computer, printer and other office equipment.

Able to stand and/or sit continually to perform essential job functions for the entire shift.

Able to independently travel within the library and throughout campus

Able to see and hear to perform all required duties related to the position.

35 hours on-site per week, including occasional evening and weekend shifts. May include additional hours to address responsibilities.
