Parsons is seeking a Public Involvement Specialist in Indianapolis, IN to support our growing portfolio of major transportation projects in the Midwest. The position involves public outreach and communications support for complex transportation infrastructure projects from preliminary design through construction. With the goal of creating project understanding, as well as positive project perception, the position will require expert skill and experience in a variety of internal and external communication strategies, including stakeholder communications. Solid writing skills, strong verbal communications, proficient editing, and detailed organization are a must. Working knowledge of basic graphic design is a strong plus.
This role requires a candidate to work in-office four days a week in our Indianapolis office and remotely one a day a week.
Responsibilities:
- Develop an understanding of the project, key issues, and potential stakeholders and create a public involvement plan to meet project team goals
- Develop strategies and tactics to build project understanding, engagement and acceptance
- Develop strategies and tactics to effectively and efficiently engage stakeholders
- Prepare written content for use in project communications, including press releases, social media posts, websites, presentations, handouts and brochures
- Design simple graphics to support communications and team needs
- Support public outreach events, including public meetings, committee meetings and community events
Qualifications:
- 4-year degree in Communications, Public Relations, Advertising, or Journalism (or equivalent) and preferred 2+ plus years of directly related work experience
- Experience with basic graphic design (Adobe Creative Cloud)
- Experience with transportation and/or public sector desirable
- Exemplary professional attitude and demonstrated ability to exercise excellent customer service and support, is required, as is the ability to interface effectively with a variety of people
