Job Summary
Greet patients, respond to phone calls, schedule patient appointments, and check patients out. Obtain authorizations from managed care insurance companies for patient referrals and schedule referral appointments. May provide prep information, collect co-pays/deductibles and assist with patient pre-registration.
Job Responsibilities
- Answer the telephone, schedule appointments and greet patients by providing excellent customer service. Counsel patients in the office and over the telephone regarding the referral requirements of their insurance carrier.
- Initiate telephone and/or written requests to managed care insurance carriers and obtain authorization for referrals prior to the patient's scheduled appointment with specialist, radiology or for other procedures. Provide documentation of authorization obtainment and maintain referral and authorization records.
- Document patient phone messages accurately. Obtain registration documents. Register and update demographic and insurance information. Update and maintain patient electronic medical and financial records. Communicate necessary information.
- Maintain patient records timely. Secure patient medical records and scan them into patient electronic medical record.
- Collect co-payments and post outstanding balances. Receive payments and prepare bank deposits. Balance and batch electronic credit card transactions. Verify deposit totals with supervisor. Prepare financial documents. Maintain and reconcile cash drawer.
- Notify management of changes in workload to maximize productivity. Resolve and follow up on challenging occurrences or situations.
- Maintain a positive attitude and exhibits professional interactions with patients, physicians, co-workers, management, other hospital staff and all other entities. Contribute to team building by maintaining a team orientated approach.
- Communicate changes in patient condition to the physician.
- All other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Education Requirements
- Minimum: HS Diploma
- Preferred: Specialized training in office administrative skills including medical terminology
Experience Requirements
- Minimum: 2 years’ experience in a healthcare setting performing related tasks
- Preferred: 5 years’ experience in a healthcare setting performing related tasks
License/Certification Requirements
