Job Summary:

The Part-Time Lab Assistant - Diesel Technology will work under the direction of the Department Chair to test, clean, and perform routine maintenance on automotive laboratory equipment. They will assist with setup and breakdown of class and lab demonstrations, help instructors prepare instructional materials, and implement learning activities. The assistant will also monitor student activities and progress with course assignments in the lab, ensure proper use of laboratory equipment, and comply with all system, college, state, and federal rules and regulations.

 ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Maintain clean and safe facilities, including organizing materials/supplies and tool room inventory
  • Perform clerical duties in support of the department
  • Operate laboratory equipment and apparatus requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination
  • May assist students in a lab/classroom setting
  • Must be able to verbally communicate to exchange information
  • May require the use of personal protective equipment
  • Other related duties as assigned
    Qualifications

    Required Qualifications:

    • High School diploma or equivalent
    • Basic knowledge of shop tools and equipment
    • Knowledge of the proper use of hand tools used in diesel service and repair
    • Knowledge of safety precautions pertaining to the maintenance of tools and equipment
    • Knowledge of methods and procedures of inventory control
    • General office computer system operation knowledge

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Associate's Degree in a related field with one year of Co-ops/Internships that include hands-on lab experience in an automotive shop environment

    WORK ENVIRONMENT 

    • Typical office 
    • Business Hours 
    • M-Th 8:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m. F 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. 
      • summer M-Th 7:30 a.m. – 5:30 pm 
    • Periodic evening and weekend hours during peak periods (e.g., open enrollment, payroll)  
    • Occasional travel (less than 10%) 

    Physical Demands:

    • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time
    • Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time
    • The person in this position needs to move to other locations on campus occasionally
    • Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation
    • Use of manual dexterity
    • Must be able to stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach overhead, and lift/move equipment in excess of 50 pounds
    • Must be able to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight
    • Must have vision in the normal visual range with or without correction
    • Must be able to hear in the normal audio range with or without correction

    Salary Range: $11.50 - $16.25 per hour
