Salary Range: $40.34 - $50.43 per hour

Position Summary:

The Princess Margaret Cancer Centre is seeking a Psychotherapist in Research, or a candidate with Clinical Psychology training that includes psychotherapy, to join the Department of Supportive Care within the Global Centre for Research and Training in Psychological Care (G-CPC). This role is divided equally between clinical psychosocial oncology practice (50%) and research, project management, and education support (50%).

The successful candidate will provide compassionate, evidence-based psychosocial care that is grounded in a patient-centered, relational therapeutic approach. The role requires strong clinical skills, interest in adult education, and the ability to support ongoing research and program development. Subject to available funding, a contract extension or more permanent role within the G-CPC may be possible.

Duties

  • Clinical Responsibilities 
    • The successful candidate will deliver evidence-based psychosocial oncology care, including:
    • Completing psychosocial assessments and delivering psychotherapy (i.e., Managing Cancer and Living Meaningfully [CALM] and Emotion and Symptom-Focused Engagement [EASE]) to individuals, couples, and families affected by cancer; psychotherapy delivery will be in the context of hospital-based clinical programs (e.g. CALM Clinic) as well as research trials (e.g. evaluating the benefit of psychotherapy added to usual care to support patients and families affected by cancer).
    • Collaborating effectively with interdisciplinary teams to support patient and family wellbeing across the illness trajectory.
    • Documenting clinical work in accordance with UHN standards and regulatory requirements.
    • Participating in case discussions, care planning, and clinical rounds. 
  • Research, Education, and Program Responsibilities
    • This portion of the role supports educational, program management, and research activities within the G-CPC.
  • Educational Program Support
    • Coordinating and facilitating supervision groups for clinical trainees and early career clinicians.
    • Supporting the development and delivery of workshops, seminars, and clinical training programs.
    • Assisting with the creation and maintenance of online and digital educational materials.
  • Research and Project Coordination
    • Supporting quantitative and qualitative research related to CALM and EASE therapy, clinician training, and supportive care innovation.
    • Assisting with ethics submissions, data collection, study coordination, data analysis, and knowledge dissemination.
    • Managing timelines, communication, and workflow across multiple national and global projects.
    • Liaising with internal, national, and international collaborators involved in quality improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

  • At minimum, completion of a master's degree in Health, Psychology or Social Sciences or recognized equivalent required.
  • At minimum, 2-3 years of practical and related experience required.
  • Member in good standing of appropriate regulated health professions College (including College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario; Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers; etc.).
  • Experience in providing individual and group psychotherapy is an asset.
  • Clinical competence to provide structured psychotherapy in the areas of trauma, depression, anxiety, grief/loss is an asset.
  • Experience providing services via information and communication technology (eg. telehealth/ telemedicine/MS Teams) preferred.
  • Training in CALM, EASE, mentalization-based, and relational psychotherapies preferred
  • ​​​​​​​Strong presentation and facilitation skills, comfortable leading supervision groups and educational sessions is an asset.
  • Experience in research coordination, knowledge translation, and qualitative or quantitative data analysis is an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary clinical and research team.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills; strong organizational, project management, and problem-solving skills.
