JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE:  PSYCHOMETRIST

REPORTS TO: Exceptional Education Supervisor

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Valid Alabama teaching certificate
  2. Valid State Department of education certificate in School Psychology (at the A or AA   level).
  3. A master’s degree or higher with academic training in psychological testing.
  4. Background courses from the following areas: tests and measurements, child development, guidance and counseling, and Exceptional Education.
  5. Such alternatives as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
  6. Preferred certification in being able to do Autism Evaluations using the ADOS and Autism rating scales.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, goals, and priorities and maintains confidentiality regarding all school and workplace matters.
  2. Administer assessments to include intellectual and achievement tests to students referred for possible eligibility for special education.
  3. Co-coordinate the eligibility and re-evaluation process and assist in making appropriate placement recommendations.
  4. Assist in the development of procedures for referral, evaluation and placement.
  5. Review referrals and request additional information, as needed.
  1. Consult with school personnel regarding appropriate referrals, and matters related to job responsibilities.
  2. Re-evaluate currently enrolled Exceptional Education students according to federal and state guidelines.
  3. Schedule testing and related activities with school personnel (or parents, as appropriate).
  1. Assist with compliance verification on transfers, re-evaluations, and initial referrals.
  2. Follow federal, state, local, and professional guidelines and timelines for evaluation and eligibility.
  3. Confers with attorneys on due process as directed.
  4. Prepare and present cases to the Eligibility Determination Committee meetings, including original testing, reconsideration and transfers.
  5. Complete written reports on tests administered on a timely basis.
  1. Serve as resource to schools for teacher, parent, and student conferences.
  2. Submit required reports; e.g., referral counts, testing numbers, re-evaluation status, number of conferences for state reporting purposes.
  3. Respond to special and emergency requests.
  4. Use effective collaboration skills to work as an effective and productive team member.
  5. Cooperate with other personnel and agencies in securing and providing services for referred students.
  6. Keep informed of and meet federal, state and county requirements and regulations affecting exceptional education students and non-discriminatory evaluation.
  7. Maintain proficiency in administration of current intellectual and diagnostic instruments.
  8. Attend trainings, workshops, and professional organization meetings for staff development as requested as well as conduct professional development trainings for special education staff on evaluation components, eligibility criteria, and interpreting of assessments for developing appropriate IEPs.
  9. Acquire knowledge, skill and proficiency in the utilization of current technologies as relevant to individual assessment.
  10. Assume responsibility for acting as a representative of the Alabaster City Board of Education in the solution of problems which might affect your specific assignment.
  11. Assume responsibility to perform any work which is assigned by the superintendent of schools and/or his representative, including the immediate supervisor.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Ten (10) Month (207-day) Contract.

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy.

SALARY: Appropriate placement on current salary schedule.
