We are seeking a Prototyping & Test Intern to join our CTO team, where we explore and validate technologies that define the future of Zipline. In this role, you’ll get hands-on experience with building, assembling, and testing prototypes, as well as supporting structured test campaigns to evaluate performance and reliability.
This is an opportunity to work closely with senior engineers on early-stage concepts, where your contributions will directly shape design iterations and accelerate technology development.
What You'll Do- Build, assemble, and modify prototype hardware using tools and fabrication methods (3D printing, machining, soldering, wiring, etc.).
- Support design experiments and run structured and ad-hoc tests on prototypes.
- Troubleshoot hardware issues and suggest creative fixes or design improvements.
- Set up test rigs, fixtures, and measurement equipment.
- Document and share test findings in a clear and organized way.
- Collaborate with engineers to iterate quickly on designs based on results.
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics or a related technical field.
Strong hands-on prototyping and tinkering skills — whether through school labs, personal projects, makerspaces, robotics clubs, or just building things at home.
Comfortable using hand tools, power tools, and lab equipment. - Curiosity-driven and resourceful, with a knack for figuring things out by trying.
Our internships are full-time positions, in-person at our South San Francisco office. We will host our Fall 2025 interns from September to December.
The starting cash range for this role is $38 - 42 / hour. Please note that this is a target, starting cash range for a candidate who meets the minimum qualifications for this role. The final cash pay for this role will depend on a variety of factors, including a specific candidate's experience, qualifications, skills, and working location. The total compensation package for this role may also include: overtime pay; commuter benefits; paid sick time; and more.
