Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced Prototype Machinist to join our dynamic team at Shield AI. This role is crucial for setting up and operating our new computer numerical control (CNC) mill, establishing standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the machine shop, and ensuring efficient use of both CNC and manual machining equipment. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in machining, a keen attention to detail, and a track record of achieving outstanding outcomes on complex projects.
What You'll Do:
- CNC Mill Setup and Operation: Set up and operate a new CNC mill. This includes calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting to ensure optimal functionality.
- SOP Development: Develop and establish standard operating procedures for all machine shop operations to maximize safety and efficiency.
- Programming and Operating CNC Equipment: Program, set up, and operate CNC machines, including lathes and mills. Optimize machining processes through adjustments to software and hardware.
- Manual Machining: Operate a variety of manual machining tools such as bandsaws, belt sanders, drill presses, and lathes to fabricate and modify parts as required.
- Quality Control: Inspect and ensure the quality of machined parts using precision measuring tools. Implement quality control measures to maintain high standards in the machining processes.
- Collaboration and Support: Work closely with engineers and other team members to translate prototypes into workable models. Provide technical support and insights during the design and development phases.
- Maintenance and Safety: Maintain a clean and safe working environment by adhering to company safety policies and cleaning schedules. Perform routine maintenance on all machining equipment to ensure operational efficiency.
Required Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a skilled machinist with expertise in both CNC and manual machining processes.
- Proficient in programming and operating CNC machines, with specific experience in CNC milling.
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems and machinability of various metals and other materials.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints and provide feedback to Engineering on best practices for manufacturability.
- Strong communication skills, ability to work effectively in a team, and takes extreme ownership of projects to achieve outstanding outcomes.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Technical certification or degree in machining technology, mechanical or manufacturing engineering, or a related field
- Experience with DVF 5000 5-Axis machining center
- Experience with Siemens SINUMERIK ONE CNC control
- Ability to setup and troubleshoot new equipment, and coordinate planned maintenance and service of machine shop equipment
