POSITION SUMMARY 

In accordance with DHS protocols, the armed guard force is responsible for all aspects of security operations for the command, including the protection of personnel, property, facilities, and critical assets. This includes managing entry control points to ensure unauthorized individuals, vehicles, and equipment are effectively deterred and denied access.

This position is well-suited for prior military and law enforcement professionals who are looking to continue their service in a structured, mission-focused environment. Officers play a vital role in protecting operations from threats such as theft, sabotage, civil disturbances, and other incidents that could disrupt normal activities. This is a union position.


COMPENSATION

Hourly Rate: $30.39 – $31.15/hr (depending on county)

Health and Welfare: $5.66/hr

Training Rate: $18.00/hr


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide professional armed security and access control services
  • Protect government property, classified materials, and personnel from unauthorized access, theft, or damage
  • Monitor and control all entry and exit points within assigned areas
  • Respond promptly and effectively to alarms, emergencies, and suspicious activity
  • Apply sound judgment and prior experience to identify and mitigate risks
  • Enforce all security and safety regulations and report violations
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of all post orders and assigned duties
  • Complete accurate, clear, and timely reports
  • Perform heavy work, including exerting significant physical force when necessary
  • Stand or remain on post for extended periods, including 12-hour shifts
  • Work in a federal facility environment with frequent interruptions and varying activity levels
  • Sit, stand, or walk for long durations depending on post assignment
  • Work outdoors in varying weather conditions and extreme temperatures
  • Navigate stairs, ladders, uneven terrain, and operational environments
  • Operate in high-noise and potentially hazardous conditions (e.g., machinery, vehicles, firearms)
  • Use protective equipment, including respirators if required
  • Availability for extended hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Travel may be required
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident who is currently a member of, or who possesses a verifiable honorable discharge from, any component the United States Armed Forces. 
  • Be a minimum of 21 years of age.
  • Must have a Social Security Card issued by the Social Security Administration, which bears the individuals name and social security number.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of armed security experience; OR
  • Minimum of one (1) year of full-duty law enforcement experience with a recognized agency; OR
  • Minimum of two (2) years of honorable service in any branch of the U.S. Armed Forces
  • Demonstrated proficiency with a handgun and ability to meet all certification standards
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English, including report writing
  • Familiarity with securing facilities and/or vehicles in a controlled environment
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • Ability to pass background investigation, drug screening, and physical examination
  • Ability to meet MRPT suitability requirements
  • Physically capable of performing all essential job duties
