Summary Generated by Built In
Catalyx Space is developing next-generation entry systems for space. As a Propulsion Engineer at Catalyx, you will be responsible for engine development and system plumbing for our entry system propulsion module. You’ll design, build, and test thrusters and fluid systems, working hands-on from concept to test bench. You’ll collaborate closely with the senior propulsion engineer to deliver a flight-ready propulsion system.

Responsibilities:

  • Own engine development, design, prototype, and hot-fire test propulsion hardware.

  • Develop and implement plumbing layouts for feed systems and integration.

  • Design and develop DAQ and safety systems.

  • Support valve, tank, and line integration.

  • Troubleshoot, iterate, and deliver tested propulsion hardware ready for system integration.

  • Design and develop the static fire stand and test infrastructure for propulsion validation.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s in Aerospace/Mechanical Engineering or related field.

  • 3 years of experience in propulsion, fluid systems, or thermal systems.

  • Hands-on experience with thruster or engine testing and plumbing layouts.

  • Strong expertise in SolidWorks for CAD modelling and assemblies.

  • Working knowledge of GD&T, DFM, and design for additive manufacturing (3D printing).

  • Ability to perform material selection and support hardware trade-offs.

  • Familiarity with NASA CEA software or equivalent propulsion analysis tools.

  • Strong problem-solving skills in lab/test environments.

Preferred Skills:

  • Prior flight heritage — your work has contributed to hardware that has flown.

  • Exposure to earth-storable, non-toxic bipropellant engines.

  • Familiarity with propulsion instrumentation and DAQ systems.

  • Experience with engine testing workflows and plumbing optimization.

  • Exposure to algorithmic engineering design.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Willingness to work extended hours and/or weekends as needed.
