About the Role
Uber is looking for a Sr Technical Program Manager (TPM) to improve end-user experiences across Uber's family of products. This TPM will lead a wide range of results-oriented programs that ensure best-in-class quality of Uber's applications and services! TPMs at Uber have a deep impact across a wide variety of business and technology decisions. They are passionate and pragmatic technologists who are able to influence the designs of scalable systems. They have a strong product sense. They are not only collaborative role models but also approachable leaders with vision. We are looking for someone with a passion for building and scaling highly-available, high-demand systems that support millions of users every day.
This is a unique opportunity for an experienced TPM who has demonstrated technical breadth and depth in highly available and scalable systems. This TPM should have excellent communication skills and be able to drive conversations at various levels of the company from engineering teams to executive leadership.
What the Candidate Will Do
You will own and drive key areas of Uber's Tech Wide Programs initiative across Uber's family of mobile and web applications as well as services and infrastructure, empowering tens of millions of users. You will collaborate with product and engineering teams across Uber to plan, execute and deliver various programs. You will build relationships and trust with various influencers and drive programs with compassion and integrity. You are not afraid to make key decisions and be direct in your conversations!
• Own key engineering initiatives across Uber, and drive improvements.• Lead cross-team and cross-functional programs and initiatives.• Understand end goals and formulate plans to meet those goals. Define Objectives and Key Results. Ensure broad agreement and alignment on them. Execute on those plans, and ensure timely delivery.• Identify and mitigate risks, proactively remove obstacles and handle escalations.• Develop broad technical knowledge and domain expertise. Understand the long term implications of architectural and technical changes, while not losing focus on the short term deliverables.• Continuously improve and scale the organization. Improve processes where needed, while being cognizant of not slowing down engineering teams.
Basic Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or Mathematics, related quantitative subject area, or equivalent practical experience.• 8+ years experience as a TPM or Engineering Manager in a software, SaaS, or systems development environment.• Experience with or solid understanding of end-to-end software development
Preferred Qualifications
• Passionate about quality, with a metrics driven approach.• Solid technical aptitude and an ability to understand full-stack software development, technical designs, challenges, and risks. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and exceptional emotional intelligence.• Ability to influence, empower, and align people across a broad variety of job functions through your relationships.• Strong organizational skills to prioritize projects without losing sight of the highest priority items. Be good at facilitating discussions.• Analytical and truth seeking. Ability to understand complex concepts and make reasoned decisions objectively.• Excellent in identifying process gaps, measuring progress, and balancing engineering and product efficiency with process overhead.
