Position Summary:

This Director position will report to the Controller, Bunge North America with an additional reporting line to the Controller, North America Agribusiness and the VP, Strategic Projects. This position will lead the newly formed Bunge North America Finance Capital Expenditure group with the primary responsibility of leading and developing a team of 3 Accountants. The Team's primary focus is to ensure complete and comprehensive project tracking for certain capital expenditure initiatives taking place primarily within Bunge North America. These projects are primarily to aid in expanding our exciting growth in current business areas and in developing (new) areas. The successful candidate will be responsible for adherence to Bunge controls (including SOX) and procedures, ensure proper accounting (US GAAP) is applied (including but not limited to classification of projects costs, capitalized interest calculations and statement of cash flow adjustments). This position will also have regular meetings and exposure to senior levels of management in presenting status of projects in a clear and succinct manner and be involved in a managing aspect of the monthly accounting close process

Core Functions:

  • Serve as lead of the Capital Expenditure accounting team and be the primary face to between the team and Senior Management. Likely also serve on the Steering Committee for multiple projects.
  • Ensure team understands their role and train where necessary, specifically their responsibilities to act withas a fiduciary responsibilityle for the protection of assets, with and an open and independent communication to all stakeholders.
  • Provide technical guidance to the team and collaborate with the Controller and BGAP for certain technical items for which the guidance is not as clear.
  • Ensure complete and comprehensive project tracking disciplines are in place to provide regular reporting of project spend, commitments, projections, and total project cost.
  • Provide guidance to the Project Team on Bunge Policy and Procedures. Ensure required control environment is present and adhered.
  • Establish proper procure to pay processes and accounting controls for the project team fully leveraging BNA's shared service functions for Procurement and Accounts Payable.
  • Assist in the identification and reporting of control deficiencies; development and implement improved processes and controls to correct same.
  • Provide guidance on correct accounting classification of projects costs (Capital vs. Expense) as well as ensure proper application of sales & use tax rules on project expenditures.
  • Track and report actual cash flow of project spend to the corporate controllers group for Capitalized Interest calculations and Statement of Cash Flow adjustments.
  • Maintain tracking of active purchase orders and ensure timely close out of completed purchase orders.
  • Oversee maintenance of all balance sheet related accounts.
  • Ensure that management and maintenance of internal orders are accurately recorded to each internal order.
  • Organize project spend information by logical asset type to facilitate SAP fixed asset accounting capitalization processes (asset classification and useful lives)
  • Complete and maintain comprehensive project forecasting future spend by period. Leverage project team, FP&A, and vendors for a comprehensive and accurate forecast of the project cost.
  • Openly and proactively communicate as the contact point for financially related inquiries from business units (FP&A, Accounting/Controllers, Tax, Procurement, Industrial Management, etc.)
  • Provide guidance on contract questions relating to payment terms, documentation requirements, withheld retainage, milestones, and any financially related information in contracts.
  • Develop and implement project disciplines and communications to track and report change orders and resulting spend projections.
  • Prepare financially related reporting tools and present all project financial information in the regular Steering Committee Meetings.



Skill/Experience Requirements:

  • Technical Skills
    • Bachelor's degree in accounting; Masters in Accountancy or MBA desirable
    • SAP FICO core competency
    • Proficient in Microsoft Excel
    • Controls orientation (SOX, COSO, etc)
    • Experience in accounting for and reporting on large capital expenditure projects
  • Communication & Relationship Management
    • Able to explain complex ideas and concepts in an easy to understand manner
    • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Business Acumen
    • 7+ years of experience with strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) especially as it relates to capital expenditures

This position will require travel of 25% - 35%.
