Austal USA Advanced Technologies (AT) is a division of Austal USA, a global defense prime contractor and a designer and manufacturer of defense and commercial ships.
Austal USA AT works at the forefront to invent, mature, and implement advanced maritime technologies which enhance operational capacities and improve readiness of our defense systems. Austal USA AT operates a technology hub in Charlottesville VA which works to bring cutting-edge manufacturing technologies to scale and also oversees operation of the U.S. Navy’s Additive Manufacturing Center of Excellence (AM COE) located in Danville, VA. The mission of the AM COE is to operationalize additive manufacturing in the submarine industrial base and provide emergent request support to sustain our Nation’s fleet.
AUTHORITIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:- Managing the evaluation, recommendation and implementation of testing procedures on various components.
- Writing complex test procedures, protocols, and plans to qualify components for service.
- Reviewing test results to assess ability of products to meet performance criteria and NAVSEA specifications.
- Supporting Root Cause Analysis efforts.
- Organizing and leading meetings between the customer and contractor regarding testing programs.
- Acting as an advisor to the engineering and customer teams regarding tasks and operations and liaising to other engineering functions and government.
- Developing technical responses for requests for information.
- Updating and maintaining test activity logs.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field.
- 2+ years of relevant experience in materials and mechanical testing.
- Experience in non-destructive testing preferred.
- Excellent analytical, organizational / planning, communication (oral and written), and interpersonal skills are required.
- A person of high ethical standards who understands the importance and requirements for compliance.
- Demonstrated ability to multitask and to work collaboratively with other functional groups.
- Ability to communicate technical material effectively.
- Ability to work with limited direction in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficient in the use of standard office computer software including Microsoft Windows and MS Office.
- Eligibility for a Secret Security Clearance from DoD.
TOOLS: MS Office, Manufacturing Execution System (MES) software, Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software, Project Management software.

LIAISES WITH: All other departments within the company, subcontractors, external customers, regulatory agencies, and suppliers.

- The ability to obtain and maintain a DoD clearance may be required if deemed necessary in the scope of your position responsibilities.

- No felony convictions of Drug crimes within three years from disposition date.
- Willing to submit to a drug screen.
- Willing to submit to a background check.
