APM Terminals

At APM Terminals, a global leader in port and terminal operations, we enable global trade and drive sustainable growth. What drives us forward is a mindset of always improving — observing how work happens, identifying what creates value, and removing what gets in the way. We constantly look for smarter, simpler, and safer ways of operating. If you thrive in environments where people value learning and are committed to continuously improve daily operations, join us and be apart of our journey.

As a Project Risk Management Lead, you will play a key role within the Project Controls and Project Execution team supporting the North Sea Terminal Bremerhaven (NTB) Transformation Project. Based in Bremerhaven, Germany, you will lead the practical implementation of project risk management, ensuring threats, opportunities, assumptions, issues, and dependencies are identified early, assessed consistently, and translated into clear response actions. Working across planning, cost, contracts, engineering, permitting, HSSE, IT/OT, automation, and business integration, you will provide structured risk insight to project leadership and governance forums to support delivery of scope, schedule, cost, safety, quality, and business-case outcomes.

What We Can Offer

At APMT Terminals, we foster a dynamic learning and training culture that empowers our employees to excel. Our commitment to improvement is driven by Lean principles, ensuring that every team member has the opportunity to develop their skills and advance their careers. Experience a diverse, multinational workplace where your operational insights directly influence how we work.

  • Contribute to a proactive, transparent, and evidence-based risk culture across a technically and culturally diverse project environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate the project risk management process in line with APM Terminals project execution standards and governance requirements.

  • Develop, maintain, and continuously improve the project risk management plan, risk calendar, review cadence, assumptions register, and reporting routines.

  • Maintain a single, auditable project risk register covering project, business, technical, schedule, cost, commercial, HSSE, permitting, stakeholder, and integration risks.

  • Facilitate risk identification workshops and review sessions with workstream leads, subject matter experts, terminal representatives, internal functions, and external advisors.

  • Challenge risk descriptions, causes, effects, probability, impact, mitigations, and residual exposure to improve the quality of risk information.

  • Identify and assess cross-functional and interface risks across construction, automation, IT/OT, operational continuity, permitting, labour relations, contracts, procurement, and stakeholder activities.

  • Support qualitative and quantitative risk analysis, including time and cost exposure assessment and sensitivity analysis.

  • Work with planning, cost, contracts, engineering, and package teams to translate risk exposure into contingency, schedule risk allowances, and decision-ready management information.

  • Link risk management with change control, assumptions management, requirements management, procurement, contract strategy, cost forecasting, scheduling, and monthly reporting.

  • Support contracting discussions through risk allocation, commercial exposure, insurance and liability considerations, and contractor interface risk analysis.

  • Monitor risk response effectiveness and residual exposure against project milestones, forecasts, business case assumptions, and governance requirements.

  • Prepare risk content for monthly reports, SteerCo and TPR materials, portfolio reviews, stage gates, and other governance forums.

  • Build risk awareness across the project team through onboarding, coaching, consistent use of risk tools, and structured reporting.

What We Are Looking For

  • Continuous improvement mindset: we are looking for someone who brings a thoughtful improvement mindset—curious about how work gets done and motivated to make meaningful, sustainable improvements over time.

  • Leadership expectation: We are looking for people who consistently puts customers first, leads by example with respect for people, delivers results with integrity, and drives continuous improvement by solving problems at the root, developing people, and raising standards every day.

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in project risk management, preferably within large capital projects, construction, infrastructure, ports, terminals, automation, industrial, or brownfield environments.

  • Demonstrable experience leading risk identification workshops and maintaining risk registers for complex, multidisciplinary projects.

  • Strong understanding of qualitative risk assessment, exposure-based prioritisation, and project controls; experience with quantitative risk analysis is preferred.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, Risk Management, Business, Finance, or a related technical discipline.

  • Project or risk management certification such as PMI-RMP, PMP, PRINCE2, AACE, IRM, or equivalent is preferred.

  • Strong analytical capability with the ability to translate uncertainty into practical project insight and challenge assumptions constructively.

  • Strong communication, facilitation, documentation, action tracking, and governance skills.

  • Commercial and contractual awareness, including an understanding of how risk allocation influences project cost, schedule, and delivery outcomes.

  • Advanced MS Excel and PowerPoint skills; familiarity with @Risk, Primavera Risk Analysis, Safran Risk, Monte Carlo simulation tools, Primavera P6/Cloud, PMWeb, Power BI, or SharePoint is advantageous.
