Job Description:

The Project Manager position is for the Youth Social Entrepreneurship Development Plus (YSED+) project, to be implemented in the Solomon Islands. This initiative is funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT) of New Zealand and will take place in targeted communities in North and East Malaita from 2026 to 2030. The component covers livelihood and Child Protection.

 The position will be based in Malaita. The YSED+ Project Manager will work under the guidance of the Sector Portfolio Manager of Livelihood and collaboratively supported by the Sector Portfolio Manager of Gender and Child Protection. Additionally, the YSED+ Project Manager may need to undertake tasks not specified in the job description and is expected to embrace the Biblical principle of ‘walking the extra mile.’ This may involve dedicating time to community work without additional compensation when necessary.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead and support the implementation of project activities, ensuring outputs and outcomes are achieved

    • Ensure that project team is familiar with the Detailed Implementation Plan (DIP) and that subsequent activity planning aligns with this

    • Project budget is managed well, including providing variance reporting and making revisions where required

    • Ensure lessons learned reflections and information sharing is done regularly to enable project team to share and reflect on project progress.

  • Ensure strong community/youth group mobilization to achieve impact and change

    • Ensure strong community mobilization

    • Identify key community members to sustain activities and exert impact

    • Ensure communities/youth groups have enhanced understanding of the YSED+ project approach through education and awareness-raising, demonstrations, Youth forums and exchange visits

    • Ensure availability of resources

    • Attend and contribute to provincial and national stakeholder meetings

  • Ensure quality and timely reporting

    • Monthly Project Updates (MPUs) submitted on the 27th-29th of every month

    • Ensure ongoing project reflection is carried out over the project lifecycle

  • Prepare monthly funding Requests to finance the implementation of the design process and oversee stewardship and effectiveness in implementations

    • Create monthly plan of action

    • Authorize financing of trip plans

    • Approve per diems

    • Approve cash advance requests in Area Program

    • Sign off employee expenditure reports and sent to operations for review

  • ‘People and Culture’ (HR) policies followed, and staff wellbeing maintained

    • Ensure staff are safe and report any emergencies

    • Ensure child protection (CP) policies are upheld during project implementation and among project partners

KNOWLEDGE/QUALIFICATION FOR THE ROLE:

  • 5 years or more experience in livelihood or Gender and Child Protection

  • At least 3 years of experience in supervision and management

  • Diploma or Bachelors Degree in Economics, community Development, law or any other related discipline

  • Computer skills: internet, MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, report writing

  • Understanding poverty and community empowerment approaches to development

  • Good communication skills (and local knowledge)

  • Experience with and knowledge of Disaster Risk Reduction and related policies

  • English language skills (reading and writing)

  • Problem-solving skills

  • Data collection skills

  • Convincing and mobilizing skills

  • Ability to work in and across diverse cultures

  • Networking skills

  • Resource mobilizing skills

  • Willing to work in and with target community and work collaboratively with project staff and stakeholders
