About the Hiring Team:
We are looking for a Practice Manager to join our team, reporting to the Head of Practice. The role will focus on supporting our relevant practice (Project Management) delivery across technology & business change. The Practice Manager be part of the program team defining, reviewing and approving the delivery, using appropriate delivery methodology and lean delivery principles whilst ensuring timely achievement of outputs and value realisation. You will be responsible for the delivery of the defined (projects)Epics & changes for the clients, provide effective management to the teams and give guidance to key business users. You will be responsible for ensuring the practice methodology aligns with the Apex global project management frameworks (agile & waterfall) and that requirements have been delivered through the cycle with the correct level of rigour & quality.
The practice team is currently located across UK - London, Ireland – Dublin, Bulgaria - Sofia, South Africa – Cape Town and the India offices - Pune, Mumbai and Bangalore. Apex currently has a 5-day Office working policy.
Key duties and responsibilities
- Hire, Manage, Coach and Mentor a team of Agile Project Manager, Project Managers and Programme Managers, to ensure the team stays motivated and well managed.
- Act as a Deputy Management Representative for the Head of Practice in their absence.
- Active member of the Agile (Practice management team) , ensuring adherence to the defined practice principles within Apex and upholding high standards for quality
- Drive quality within the practice, ensuring the team strive for excellence and implement process improvement
- Write project related Approach, where required, for large scale projects or programmes that deviate from the Function Strategy.
- Be accountable for the management, planning, design and execution of all discipline activities, within your workstream
- Own the performance of practice resource, within your workstream, supporting the Portfolio Leads to ensure project deliverables are completed within agreed cost, timescale and resource budgets.
- Monitor practice activities and identify patterns and trends, providing insights and recommendations to improve software quality.
- Progress and status reporting on a regular basis on overall project deliveries.
- Managing and mitigating any resource related project escalations, risks and issues.
- Actively participate in lessons learned sessions to help improve project management processes.
Experience and skills:
- 4+ years of Discipline Management/Team Lead experience.
- 8+ years of Discipline experience.
- Proven track record of leading teams, and experience in implementing a range of disciplines in a Waterfall and/or agile environment.
- Good all-round IT Practice background from preferably a number of industries / domains.
- Excellent knowledge (ideally hands-on) of discipline tooling
- Experience in developing metrics to access performance of the team.
- Experience coaching mentoring and hiring industry professionals.
- Experience in running workshop exercises with globally dispersed teams.
- Discipline Certification
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and coordinate with globally dispersed technical and non-technical teams.
- Very strong organisational and stakeholder management skills with ability to negotiate at all levels.
- Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills and ability to build strong working relationships at senior management level.
- Ability to act on own initiative with a can-do attitude.
- Ability to work in a quickly changing environment, being very flexible as tasks and responsibilities may change.
- Drives continuous process improvement.
- Fluent in English speaking and written skills.
Nice to have:
- Experience in IT in a Financial Services organization.
- Experience in Funds Industry
- Understanding of W365/Azure infrastructure, including Application Layering.
- Experience of using Azure Devops project management tool
