About Carbon Upcycling

At Carbon Upcycling, we are redefining how the world builds by transforming CO₂ emissions into performance-enhancing materials for cement, concrete, and other industrial applications.
Our team operates at the intersection of carbon capture, materials science, and industrial innovation, scaling sustainable technologies for global impact.

We are seeking a Project Manager with deep industrial experience and strong leadership skills to oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of complex engineering and construction projects across our growing portfolio.

Position Overview

The Project Manager will lead the successful delivery of capital and process integration projects—from design through commissioning—ensuring alignment with technical, financial, and sustainability objectives.

This role requires a blend of technical acumen, stakeholder management, and operational discipline, ideally from heavy industrial sectors such as cement, steel, or oil & gas.
Experience within the cement or materials sector is a strong asset, though not required.

The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced, innovation-driven environment, brings a rigorous approach to project execution, and can lead cross-functional teams to deliver on Carbon Upcycling’s ambitious growth goals.

Key Responsibilities

Project Leadership & Delivery

  • Lead the end-to-end delivery of industrial and technology deployment projects, ensuring on-time, on-budget, and safe execution.
  • Develop and maintain project plans, schedules, budgets, risk registers, and performance metrics.
  • Coordinate across engineering, operations, procurement, and external partners to ensure alignment and accountability.
  • Oversee all phases of project lifecycle—concept, feasibility, design, construction, commissioning, and closeout.
  • Manage contractors, consultants, and vendors to ensure compliance with specifications and standards.
  • Champion Carbon Upcycling’s EHS (Environment, Health, and Safety) culture throughout project activities.

Technical & Operational Execution

  • Work closely with technical and R&D teams to translate process innovations into scalable industrial solutions.
  • Provide input on constructability, design optimization, and cost control.
  • Support commissioning and startup activities, ensuring operational readiness and seamless handoff to field operations.
  • Manage procurement of long-lead items, vendor qualifications, and logistics for specialized equipment.

Stakeholder & Risk Management

  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders—clients, partners, suppliers, regulators, and investors—to ensure project transparency and alignment.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks; proactively manage change and deviations.
  • Prepare and deliver progress reports, forecasts, and presentations for senior leadership and key stakeholders.

Qualifications

Required:

  • 15–20 years of total professional experience, with at least 10 years of project management experience in industrial, manufacturing, or process engineering environments.
  • Minimum 5 years in a formal Project Manager role overseeing capital or industrial facility projects.
  • Proven experience managing EPC (Engineering, Procurement, Construction) or equivalent industrial projects, preferably in cement, steel, or oil & gas.
  • Strong understanding of process engineering, mechanical systems, and construction execution.
  • Excellent stakeholder management, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, schedules, and resources across multiple concurrent projects.
  • Proficient with project management tools (MS Project, Primavera, or equivalent) and standard project controls methodologies.
  • Strong commitment to safety, quality, and sustainability.
  • Eligibility to work in Canada and travel domestically/internationally as required.

Preferred / Assets:

  • Experience in cement or building materials manufacturing or decarbonization projects.
  • PMP or equivalent certification.
  • Experience in carbon capture, utilization, or environmental technologies.
  • Knowledge of construction codes, permitting, and industrial site commissioning.
  • Mechanical or chemical engineering background strongly preferred.
  • Proven success in startup or scale-up industrial environments with agile project delivery.

Skills & Attributes

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving mindset.
  • Adaptable, pragmatic, and hands-on in complex project environments.
  • Natural collaborator who thrives in a cross-functional, mission-driven team.
  • High level of accountability, professionalism, and attention to detail.
  • Passion for sustainability and commitment to decarbonization.

Why Join Carbon Upcycling

What We Do

Carbon Upcycling is a waste and carbon utilization company unlocking a new frontier of circular materials. We’re tackling the biggest problems on the planet—like climate change and industrial waste. Applying our novel technology platform, we enable hard-to-decarbonize industry to transform local industrial byproducts and natural materials into superior additives. Our first massive market is concrete, the source of eight percent of global CO2 emissions and growing. Our novel technology reduces the carbon footprint of cement, sequesters carbon, and improves concrete performance. We do this by opening up a new class of locally available, carbon-sequestering cement replacements. With Carbon Upcycling, cement producers can now create a superior product using local industrial byproducts and natural materials and save the planet at the same time.
