About the Role

The Project Manager, Certified Asbestos Consultant (CAC), leads asbestos and environmental health projects from initial scope and proposal development through field investigations, report delivery, invoicing, and closeout. This hands-on role combines project management, client communication, technical oversight, and regular fieldwork, including coordinating and performing site assessments, directing field personnel, and ensuring accurate sampling, documentation, and reporting.

The Project Manager manages project schedules, budgets, staffing, quality, and client expectations while supporting business development, maintaining required certifications, and mentoring team members.

Responsibilities

Project Management and Financial Performance

• Lead asbestos and environmental health projects from initial inquiry and proposal development through fieldwork, reporting, invoicing, and closeout.

• Meet or exceed individual billable-hours and billable-revenue targets.

• Develop cost estimates for proposals and enter estimates into the Project Planning module of the ERP system.

• Review project scopes and define the appropriate tasks, schedules, staffing plans, and deliverables.

• Monitor project budgets throughout the project lifecycle; proactively identify needed adjustments and communicate impacts to clients.

• Maintain work-in-progress (WIP) aging within an acceptable range, with less than 15% of WIP exceeding 45 days.

• Review WIP weekly for active projects and submit invoice requests regularly.

• Follow established procedures for progress billing and final project closeout invoicing.

• Partner with the Accounting Department, as requested, to resolve collections and invoicing issues.

• Enter time and expenses daily.

• Maintain complete and organized electronic project files, including all project-related documentation.

Fieldwork and Technical Delivery

• Perform and coordinate field investigations for asbestos and other environmental health and industrial hygiene projects.

• Conduct or oversee site assessments, sampling, observations, documentation, and related field activities in accordance with project scope, applicable regulations, and internal procedures.

• Coordinate field personnel; oversee work quality, field activity, safety, and adherence to project requirements.

• Provide direction, coaching, and timely feedback to staff assigned to projects.

• Select, rent, or borrow the equipment necessary to complete field and project work.

• Prepare, review, and finalize project reports and other client deliverables.

• Maintain acceptable report turnaround times to support timely client service.

• Maintain compliance with internal quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) requirements.

• Maintain all certifications required for assigned work, including current CAC certification.

Client Service and Business Development

• Serve as a primary point of contact for prospective and existing clients; field calls, communicate project updates, and address technical or project-related questions.

• Follow established procedures for opening new projects and communicate all required project information to internal teams.

• Update the A.R.C. for open projects with current stages and associated due dates.

• Monitor open opportunities in the ERP system and follow up with clients as appropriate.

• Build and maintain relationships with focus clients; ensure client and opportunity information is current in the ERP system.

• Attend client meetings, association meetings, and presentation opportunities.

• Arrange and participate in client presentations and other business-development activities.

• Refer local opportunities to, and/or engage, the Business Development team as appropriate.

• Assist with the development of marketing resources, including project summaries.

Team Development and Professional Growth

• Attend required internal and external technical training.

• Support the development, training, and mentoring of field and project staff.

• Maintain current knowledge of asbestos, industrial hygiene, environmental health and safety requirements, and applicable field practices.

Experience, Education, and Certifications

• Current Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification required.

• Minimum of eight years of experience performing fieldwork and/or successfully managing large, complex projects in at least one of the company’s service lines.

• At least two years of working knowledge of industrial hygiene, environmental health and safety concepts, and the use of common indoor environmental quality (IEQ) field instruments.

• Demonstrated experience managing project schedules, budgets, staffing, technical deliverables, and client relationships.

• Bachelor’s degree in industrial hygiene, health and safety, biological science, physical science, or a related field preferred.

• All certifications required for assigned work must remain current and relevant to the scope of work performed.

• Additional current certifications applicable to asbestos consulting, environmental health, industrial hygiene, or assigned project work are preferred.

• Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, client needs, and changing field conditions.

• Flexibility in work schedule and willingness to travel to project locations as needed.

• Ability to use and quickly learn computer applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and ERP/project-management systems.

Physical & Work Requirements

• Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 30 lbs.
• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer for documentation and reporting
• Must be able to pass a background check, annual physicals, and OSHA-required respirator fit tests
• Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and current auto insurance
