The Role
Manage full lifecycle planning, coordination, and execution of mission-critical process piping systems (chilled water, process cooling, compressed gases). Oversee schedules, budgets, procurement, subcontractors, welding/testing/commissioning, QA/QC, and compliance with codes (ASME). Support commissioning, documentation, risk mitigation, and closeout for critical-infrastructure projects.
Summary Generated by Built In

The Critical Process Piping Project Manager is responsible for the successful planning, coordination, and execution of process piping systems on mission-critical and industrial projects — including chilled water, process cooling, compressed gases, and other critical fluid systems essential to facility operations. This role requires deep technical knowledge of piping systems, strong subcontractor and vendor management skills, and the ability to manage schedule and quality on systems where failure is not an option. The ideal candidate has direct experience managing process piping on data centers, industrial, manufacturing, or other critical-infrastructure environments.

Key Responsibilities

Project Management

  • Lead full lifecycle project management of critical process piping scopes, from preconstruction through closeout
  • Develop and manage project schedules, budgets, and manpower plans specific to process piping installation
  • Review and interpret P&IDs, isometric drawings, and mechanical/process specifications
  • Manage procurement and tracking of long-lead piping materials, valves, fittings, and specialty components
  • Ensure compliance with project specifications, applicable codes (ASME B31.3, B31.9, etc.), and quality standards

Technical & Field Coordination

  • Coordinate installation of critical piping systems including chilled water, process cooling, compressed air, and other mission-critical fluid systems
  • Oversee welding, testing, and commissioning activities to ensure systems meet required pressure, purity, and performance standards
  • Partner with QA/QC teams to manage weld logs, NDE (non-destructive examination) requirements, and hydrostatic/pneumatic testing
  • Coordinate closely with mechanical, electrical, and controls trades to sequence work and avoid conflicts in critical spaces
  • Manage subcontractor performance, including scope compliance, schedule adherence, and safety

Risk & Quality Management

  • Identify and proactively resolve risks related to system design, material lead times, and field conditions
  • Support commissioning and startup activities, ensuring systems are fully tested and validated prior to turnover
  • Maintain thorough documentation including redlines, test reports, and turnover packages
  • Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action processes for any quality or performance issues
Qualifications

Required Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field.

Required Experience:
- Demonstrated experience in project scheduling, cost tracking, and budget management.
- Experience in preparing and tracking subcontracts, purchase orders, RFIs, and submittals.
- Proven ability to coordinate with subcontractors, vendors, inspectors, and internal teams.
- Experience in attending project meetings and assisting with meeting minutes and follow-ups.
- Ability to monitor project progress effectively.

- 3+ years of experience in commercial or industrial construction.

Required Skills and Abilities:
