Overview:
The Project Manager will assist the government with the initiation, planning, execution, and closure of projects for new capabilities within the SOCOM Information Environment (SIE). Within this scope, a project is defined as a USSOCOM, Component Command, TSOC, or deployed forces’ designated and approved activity, or group of activities, required to achieve the objective of creating, providing, delivering, or enhancing a specific IT product or service. The candidate will strictly adhere to current industry best practices in project management to successfully drive initiatives to closure and seamlessly transition them to sustainable operations.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Lead and assist the government with the initiation, detailed planning, structured execution, monitoring, and formal closure of IT capability projects.
- Oversee activities designed to create, provide, deliver, or enhance IT products and services across USSOCOM, Component Commands, TSOCs, and deployed forces.
- Ensure all completed projects follow current best practices for a seamless, well-documented transition from the development/implementation phase into active operations.
- Act as a central point of contact to coordinate project timelines, requirements, and milestones between deployment forces, technical teams, and government leadership.
- Identify, mitigate, and track project risks, resource constraints, and schedule variances to maintain alignment with SIE mission priorities.
- Develop and maintain project documentation, project charters, schedules, and executive-level status updates for PMO review.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- The Project Manager is responsible for leading, directing, and matrix-managing cross-functional project teams to achieve successful mission delivery.
Education and/or Experience:
- Proven professional experience in IT project management, preferably within a federal government, Department of Defense (DoD), or military command environment (such as USSOCOM or tactical deployment forces).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Mastery of current project management frameworks, best practices (PMBOK), and software development/deployment lifecycles.
- Familiarity with enterprise information environments, IT infrastructure, and the deployment of products/services in a defense network context.
- Strong ability to guide cross-functional, multi-organizational teams toward shared project objectives without formal authority.
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively brief senior military officers, civilian leaders, and technical teams.
- Resourceful analytical skills to resolve scheduling conflicts, resource constraints, and technical hurdles in high-pressure environments.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
- Project Management Institute (PMI) Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is strictly required.
Security Clearance:
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Must be eligible for and able to obtain and maintain required security clearance/access approvals.
