Purpose of the Role
BGIS is seeking an experienced Electrical & Energy Project Manager to lead the successful delivery of electrical and energy infrastructure projects across New Zealand schools. Reporting to the General Manager – Design & Advisory, you will work closely with the Ministry of Education, clients, contractors, consultants and internal delivery teams to manage projects from initial scoping through to completion.
This role plays a key part in delivering school solar installations, electrical infrastructure upgrades, diesel boiler replacement programmes and other Ministry-led property projects while ensuring compliance, quality, safety and stakeholder satisfaction.
We're looking for a proactive, technically capable project manager who enjoys solving complex challenges, building strong relationships and delivering meaningful projects that benefit communities.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the planning, coordination and delivery of multiple electrical and energy projects.
- Conduct site investigations and develop project scopes and technical specifications.
- Manage project programmes, budgets, risks, documentation and reporting.
- Coordinate contractors, suppliers, consultants and Ministry stakeholders throughout project delivery.
- Support procurement activities including tender evaluations and contractor selection.
- Ensure projects comply with legislative requirements, Ministry standards and Health & Safety obligations.
- Conduct site inspections and quality assurance reviews to ensure successful project outcomes.
- Monitor project milestones, identify risks and implement mitigation strategies.
- Prepare proposals, estimates, project reports and handover documentation.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of project management systems, templates and delivery processes.
Education, Experience & Skills
Essential
- Electrical Registration with a current New Zealand Practising Licence.
- Demonstrated experience managing electrical and infrastructure projects.
- Strong understanding of New Zealand electrical regulations and Health & Safety legislation.
- Experience interpreting electrical drawings and architectural plans.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
- Strong Microsoft Office skills including Excel, Word and Microsoft Project.
- Experience using Microsoft Teams, SharePoint and collaborative project management platforms.
Desirable
- PRINCE2 or PMP Project Management certification.
- Experience delivering renewable energy projects including solar and battery systems.
- Knowledge of Ministry of Education property programmes and standards.
- Understanding of school property planning, procurement and construction processes.
- Experience using Microsoft Copilot or AI tools to improve productivity.
Workplace Flexibility
To support your success, this role will initially be based on-site in our Auckland office. Following successful completion of the probation period and subject to business requirements, there may be an opportunity to transition to a flexible hybrid working arrangement.
