About the Role
Lendlease’s Construction business is seeking a Project Lawyer to support a confidential and nationally significant construction project on a part-time basis (3 days per week) on a fixed-term contract until December 2027 (with potential to extend). We will also consider candidates looking for a full-time role, who would support this project for 3 days a week and other Lendlease Construction projects for the remainder of the week.
While Canberra-based candidates are preferred, we will also consider candidates located elsewhere who can demonstrate flexibility and are willing to work between our head office in Sydney and the site in Canberra as required.
In this role, you will be an integral part of the project team, reporting to the Project Director and into the Legal Team. You will provide commercially focused, pragmatic legal advice across a range of project-related matters, working closely with key stakeholders to support the successful delivery of a high-profile government project. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to strategically important work in a collaborative and fast-paced environment.
You will be involved in a broad range of legal matters, including contract review and negotiation, project delivery support, risk management, governance, and general commercial advisory work. The role offers exposure to complex legal and commercial issues while partnering closely with the business to enable successful project outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide legal support and guidance to the project, including on head contract interpretation and identification of legal/commercial risks.
Draft, review, negotiate, and finalise subcontractor/consultant agreements, and variations.
Assess and advise on subcontractor/consultant contract claims and disputes.
Prepare and review deeds of amendments, deeds of settlement and novation with our client and supply chain.
Support the commercial team with head contract administration, including notices of delay, extensions of time, and change orders.
Advise on contract disputes and resolution strategies, including assessing entitlements for head contract claims and developing successful claim strategies.
Deliver training and upskilling programs for contract administrators and the project team on contract terms, drafting techniques, and claim strategies.
About You:
A tertiary education in law and extensive post-qualification legal experience of between 5 years to 9 years PQE in building and construction and related legal work.
Experience with the Commonwealth Department of Defence managing contractor form of contract is preferred.
The ability to provide practical, solutions-focused legal advice in a dynamic project environment.
Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
A proactive, adaptable approach with strong commercial acumen.
The ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a broader project team.
You have a current NV1 (National Vetting Level 1) Security Clearance (a formal assessment conducted by the Australian Government Security Vetting Agency) and are willing and eligible to apply, through the project, for and maintain NV2 clearance. (Note that this clearance regime requires you to be an Australian Citizen).

Skills Required
- Tertiary education in law
