The opportunity
Seize this opportunity to become part of Hitachi Energy’s Service team in the UK & Ireland.
As a Project Engineer you will be responsible for coordinating the design for projects delivered within Service (HV, Switchgear & Transformers), ensuring that high quality designs are delivered on time and in line with customer requirements.
In this role you will serve as the link between our suppliers and our customers to provide a successful, high-quality project delivery whilst minimizing the risks throughout the design and project lifecycle.
You will have experience and expertise in leading engineering projects, preferably within the power sector, with a focus on primary power engineering and an open, proactive approach.
The position will require travel to customer sites in the UK and Europe (to attend workshops within our feeder factories.
Please note that we are unable to provide visa sponsorship (including post study).
How you’ll make an impact
- Proactive technical and design management of projects from initiation to final sign-off.
- Operate in alignment with continuous improvement and cost-effectiveness throughout the project life cycle.
- Drive customer satisfaction by maintaining high-quality standards in all aspects of Service delivery.
- Ensure effective coordination and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
- Take a leading role in design reviews and project meetings for the technical and design aspects of the project.
- Manage customer expectations regarding the overall Service offering, product, and portfolio.
- Collaborate with our suppliers and subcontractors to ensure a high-quality design that meets requirements and address issues to deliver swift resolutions.
- Mark up detailed design drawings and update when required.
- Provide technical support and advice across the business where required, including reviewing RAMS, test plans, installation plans, offer documents, and during on-site installation.
- Conduct site surveys.
- Interpret customer requirements and specifications - apply them to Hitachi Energy’s design deliverables.
- Maintain awareness of scope of work and contractual agreements in place, highlighting any scope changes, risks, and cost optimizations.
Your background
- A Higher National Certificate (HNC) or degree in engineering is preferred, with a focus on electrical or mechanical disciplines considered advantageous but not mandatory.
- Demonstrated experience in leading the design of engineering projects, ideally with primary power system engineering knowledge within the transmission or distribution sectors.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate across all levels of the organization and external stakeholders.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and AutoCAD.
- Proven problem-solving capabilities.
- Collaborative team player who takes personal accountability and is committed to working with others to achieve shared objectives.
- Demonstrates financial literacy, with the capability to analyse financial statements and oversee budget management.
- Systematic and proactive, with attention to detail and effective time management skills.
Skills Required
