The Opportunity

We are offering an exciting position for a Project Engineer, on a 18 months fixed term contract, to join the Process Engineering team at the Cochlear Brisbane Operations division based in Newstead.

As part of a larger cohort of Engineering talent, the Project Engineer will work collaboratively with a diverse group of people to deliver on the Manufacturing Network Optimisation (MNO) strategy through the deployment of program and project management to build site capacity and capability to meet objectives enabling our recipients to Hear now. And always.

Responsibilities include:

  • Executing Manufacturing Network Optimisation (MNO) projects by relocating/duplicating processes across the manufacturing network, in line with project objectives, target and timeline.

  • Delivering small projects or parts of complex technical projects with limited supervision, typically having an immediate term business focus.

  • Organising and co-ordinating the execution of the project activities in line with the function’s guideline.

  • Acting as the bridge between the Project Manager and the technical aspects of the project, coordinating the efforts of different teams, such as Manufacturing, Engineering, Procurement, Facilities and Contractors.

  • Developing detailed work plans, schedules and project updates.

  • Preparing, reviewing, and maintaining project technical documentation and reports.

  • Ensuring manufacturing processes and/or manufacturing facility documentation complies with Cochlear QMS (e.g. equipment/facility validation protocols/reports).

  • Communicating project updates and status on a regular basis outside function.

  • Communicating with others outside of own job area regarding policies, practices, and procedures.

  • Escalating problems/issues needing a decision beyond a short to mid-term timeframe.

  • May direct the work of others in a team environment.

 

About You. As we grow our operations, we are looking for people who share our passion for delivering quality hearing solutions to our customers. To add value to Cochlear in this role, you'll be able to demonstrate the following skills and experience:

 

Must Haves:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Mechanical / Electrical / Biomedical / Mechatronics Engineering or equivalent.

  • An engineering professional with minimum 1 – 4 years’ experience in an engineering related field.

  • Shall have experience in managing small or parts of a complex technical project to completion.

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with cross functional teams to ensure project deliverables are achieved.

  • Shall have proven experience introducing and/or duplicating manufacturing processes.

  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel & PowerPoint. 

Ideal:

  • Project management experience is highly desirable.

  • Experience in a process development role and/or executing facility validation activities within a highly regulated industry (Medical Device and/or Electronics Manufacturing) is preferred.

  • Experience working on Surface Mount Technology (SMT) processes (Screen Printing, SPI, Pick & Place, Reflow) and/or Injection Moulding projects is highly desirable for this role.

  • Familiar with Six Sigma Lean Manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
