Job Responsibilities:

RESPONSIBILITIES:   

  • Generally assigned to develop complex components and assemblies.  Assignments will include programs with existing and new customers, the introduction of new technology, accelerated development cycles and integrated product lines.
  • Demonstrates advanced ability in compiling and maintaining APQP and internally required Engineering documents (Eng. Specs., DFMEA, DVP&R, Key Characteristic Maps, DFM/DFA, Lessons Learned, etc.). Follows PEP and IDP process and delivers evidence documents as required.
  • Effectively participates and executes as part of a Cross Functional Team. Is capable of travelling to manufacturing and supplier facilities in order to facilitate launch and ongoing program activities.
  • Ensures accurate execution of assignments related to PEP/IDP process while maintaining disciplined document release control. Deliverables to be completed in line with project timing and budget.
  • Act as a liaison to customer/supplier. Capable of managing: customer/supplier communication, relationship building/maintenance, meetings, presentations and needs. Communications need to be clear and properly documented to prevent possibility of challenges to interpretation in the future. Capable of winning and maintaining customer/supplier trust. Seeks out opportunities to advance/promote Mechatronics products, in support of winning targeted new business. Displays strong diplomatic and negotiating skills.
  • Consults and collaborates with personnel on various Engineering and Design activities related to the product development process.
  • Generates innovative solutions to problems that resolve issues on projects as well as open potential avenues to new products/patents/cost savings.
  • Executes project development from concept to production release. Product must incorporate internal and customer input/requirements.  Level of the project's complexity may extend up to vehicle systems. Designs should demonstrate advanced understanding of material, industry, OEM, product specific, supplier process, manufacturing and other best practices. Applies these skills to create viable solutions for product designs and generate/evaluate concepts for technical merit.
  • Capable of generating studies and concept sketches for the purpose of understanding, communicating, or overcoming technical issues.
  • Can execute complex calculations and kinematic studies using product standards and individual knowledge.
  • Works with Analysts to provide input and direction necessary for accurate execution of CAE studies, and optimizes designs based on results.
  • Advanced understanding of dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T). Able to independently devise dimensioning schemes that suit fit & function of parts while accounting for mating condition to other components in an assembly. Application of tolerance stack ups. Consideration for manufacturing and quality assurance capabilities should be evident in the dimensioning strategy and design.
  • Provides technical guidance and mentoring as needed to other Engineers regarding best practices and engineering/design principles.
  • Exercise advanced knowledge and skill when executing internal change management, and when adapting to customer change management systems, in order to ensure accuracy and proper protocol when processing engineering change requests.
  • Understands and follows existing policies, procedures, work instructions and standards and makes recommendations for continuous improvements.
  • Able to open and review CAD models. Can perform basic manipulation (sectioning, measuring, image capture, etc.) independently without the need to tie up Designer resources.
  • Can create test plans that exhibit advanced application of reliability/confidence principles, customer specifications, internal specifications and sound Engineering judgement. Participates in test setup and fixture sign-off process. Monitors testing on an ongoing basis. Reviews and prepares scientific testing reports in a manner typical of a professional laboratory.
  • Competently analyzes and investigates failure in the field (warranty returns), or in testing and follows a TIR and 8D process (e.g. fishbone diagram, Red X, etc.) for closing and documenting the event.

Salary Range: $75,000-$100,000 Annual

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • A minimum of 3 years of diversified engineering experience within the product segment
  • Fundamental knowledge of manufacturing & assembly process
  • Strong communication skills: verbal and written
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to successfully complete multiple tasks within established and changing deadlines
  • Ability to review, manage and release prints. Solid understanding of 3D modeling/design process with demonstrated competency in GD&T.
  • Proficient with word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, project management and database software applications
  • Ability to manage customers, suppliers, etc. to achieve program deliverables
  • Proficient with industry standard processes like APQP, 8D, DFM/DFA, TS, SPC, DFSS, etc.
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment.
  • Is able to authoritatively present technical information in a clear and persuasive manner, and can negotiate effectively in an important situation.
  • Demonstrate successful performance with independent problem solving and presentations
  • Ability to apply academic and other engineering principles in the development of automotive components and utilize math-based tools (e.g. Dimensional management, Kinematics, etc.)
