Summary

Work as a Lead Project Engineer in a team consisting of international colleagues who are developing metallurgical software models for steel melt shop customers. As a part of this team, you will identify cost optimizing potentials and problem areas in the steel melt shop process. You will develop solutions for operating and optimizing the workflow by means of metallurgical modelling and hands-on software development. You will interact with a wide spectrum of people like project managers, customers, R&D specialists, process metallurgists and data scientist in order to deliver these models.

What you'll do

  • Modelling and developing metallurgical models with optimization algorithms directed towards improving costs, time, material and energy consumptions. 
  • Sustainability, clean environment, CO2 reduction and “Green Steel” shall play a key role in our solutions.
  • Engineering and adopting the metallurgical models to match project and customer requirements 
  • Testing the models in simulation environment to the satisfaction of the project and customer goals.
  • Commissioning and tuning the metallurgical models at customer steel plants internationally.
  • Provide support to the Sales and Service team 

What you’ll need

  • You have successfully completed a university degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering. Preferably with focus on Extrusion or Forging Industyr. 
  • 2+ years of experience in the metals industry
  • Passion in the development of exciting products and interest in new, innovative topics.
  • Ability to take responsibility and drive project to completion. 
  • Strong analytical, verbal and coordination skills
  • Experience with steel or aluminum plant operation or process metallurgy is desirable.
  • Cross culture communications skills, proficient English skills and German language skills are beneficial
  • Assist with SOW and specification development 
  • Work closely with internal engineer, sales and proposal teams as well as external contractors and vendors

Skills Required

  • University degree in metallurgical or material science (preferably ferrous metallurgy)
  • 2+ years of experience in the metals industry
  • Ability to take responsibility and drive projects forward
  • Strong analytical, strategic and coordination skills
  • Hands-on experience in mathematical algorithms for optimization (thermodynamic, scheduling, planning, control design)
  • Hands-on experience developing efficient and reliable software with object-oriented programming skills
  • Experience with C++ or C#
  • Knowledge of software architecture for intensive mathematical calculations
  • Exposure to steel plant operation or process metallurgy
  • Overview of process control and automation typical in steel plants
  • Cross-cultural communication skills; proficiency in English (German beneficial)
