Role: Manager – Engineering (Power Station Integration)

Locations: Hybrid working with one of the following as Primary: Derby, Warrington or Manchester

Our mission is to deliver clean, affordable energy for all. Our Small Modular Reactor (SMR) provides a British solution to a global energy challenge. We are in pole position to become a world leader in SMRs and the UK's premier green export technology.

The Power Station Architecture team sits at the centre of our engineering organisation, bringing together disciplines, systems and stakeholders to define and optimise the overall power station design. Through systems thinking, innovation and collaboration, the team ensures our integrated power station solution delivers against performance, safety, cost, schedule and regulatory requirements.

In this context, we are looking for a Manager – Engineering (Power Station Integration) to support the delivery of the Power Station Level Design and integration. Working across a complex matrix of engineering teams, suppliers and stakeholders, this role will lead the integration of key power station systems, drive critical design decisions and shape the development of one of the most exciting engineering programmes in the UK.

We'll need you to:

  • Leading multidisciplinary engineering work packages, coordinating activities across engineering functions to deliver an integrated power station design aligned to programme objectives

  • Driving system integration, architecting and design decision-making activities, ensuring technical solutions satisfy product requirements, stakeholder needs and operational objectives

  • Managing complex technical interfaces between systems, disciplines, suppliers and delivery partners, resolving issues and enabling efficient progression through engineering milestones and stage gates

  • Applying systems engineering methodologies and structured optioneering techniques to evaluate design solutions and support evidence-based decision making

  • Developing and maintaining delivery plans, forecasts, priorities and recovery actions, working closely with project controls and programme teams to ensure commitments are achieved. Providing department wide input on technical risk and earned value.

  • Influencing and aligning senior stakeholders across engineering, programme delivery and external organisations to balance competing priorities and achieve the best overall power station outcome

  • Ensuring the effective flow-down of top-level requirements into lower-tier systems, maintaining alignment between individual design activities and overarching power station objectives

  • Facilitating collaboration across multidisciplinary teams, promoting systems thinking and establishing an integrated approach to design development, risk management and technical governance

As you can see, this is a pivotal, high-profile role within our Engineering function, and you'll bring a collaborative mentality, delivery focus and systems-thinking mindset, alongside the ability to influence stakeholders and solve complex technical challenges, as well as:

We're looking for:

  • A degree (or equivalent) in Engineering, Science or a related technical discipline, with Chartered Engineer status (or working towards chartership) desirable

  • We'll ask about your experience delivering complex engineering projects, integrating multiple systems and coordinating multidisciplinary teams within highly regulated environments

  • Knowledge of systems engineering principles, requirements management, engineering lifecycle processes and standards such as ISO 15288

  • Experience applying design integration, technical governance, programme delivery and decision-making methodologies, with exposure to MBSE tools such as Capella and Arcadia advantageous

  • An understanding of power generation, nuclear, defence, aerospace or other complex infrastructure environments would be beneficial

Location

We offer hybrid working but will expect regular attendance at an RR SMR office location, including Manchester, Warrington or Derby, together with occasional UK travel as required.

What's in it for me?

  • We anticipate paying a salary of between £60,000-£78,750

  • Bonus - Performance related target opportunity 12.5%

  • Benefits Allowance – £2,200 per annum, enabling you to create a bespoke package

  • Pension - 12% employer and 6% employee contributions.

  • Holidays - 28 days holiday (+ public holidays) and the ability to buy or sell up to 4 days.

  • Private Medical Insurance - BUPA single cover health care

  • Life Assurance - 6x pensionable pay

  • £250 - One-off payment for new starters for home office purchases

Selection Process

The selection process will consist of an introductory conversation with the Talent Acquisition Partner, followed by interview stages with key stakeholders.

Due to the safety regulations within the nuclear industry, applicants will be required to participate in additional screening. These are:

  • Obtaining Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) clearance

  • Satisfactory completion of a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check

  • Satisfactory completion of a basic financial probity check
